1. Perspectives on OER from
Wikiversity

2. Wikiversity is both
1. a repository of resources, and
2. a space for learning
This represents a significant widening of the
definition of OER
Also, a significant challenge to facilitate and
manage
3. As an open repository…
In an editable environment, is a resource ever
‘finished’?
Can anyone edit this material; should there be
some level of control?
Can a resource be ‘not good enough’?
What is quality; what is ‘good’?
(For whom, and who decides?)
4. As an open space for learning…
How do we engage learners; how do we encourage
them to participate?
How do we become people-centred, as opposed to
content-centred? (Leinonen, Vadén & Suoranta,
2009)

5. As both repository and space…
Is there a tension between quality of content and
opportunities for participation?
How much room is there for people to experiment
and learn?
6. These are significant challenges…
…but ones we need to take seriously if we are
serious about opening up education
