Seven (7) Deadly Sins have been used since early
Christian times to define human vice or evil
thought.
Avoid these destructive behaviors as they have
been the demise of many leaders.
The Seven are: LUST, GLUTTONY,
GREED, SLOTH, WRATH, ENVY, &
PRIDE.

leader who wants to do it all
himself, or to get all the credit
for doing it.”
- Andrew Carnegie

LUST: Intense desire of money, food, fame, power or sex.
24. Quote

their way to boost the self-
esteem of their personnel. If
people believe in themselves,
it’s amazing what they can do.”
- Sam Walton
25. 3. Barriers to Leadership
GLUTTONY: Over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the
point of waste. Selfishness, placing one’s own interests above the
well-being or interests of others.
27. 3. Barriers to Leadership
GREED: Inordinate desire to acquire or possess more than one needs,
especially with respect to material wealth.
28. Quote
“Before you are a leader, success is
all about growing yourself. When
you become a leader, success is all
about growing others.”
- Jack Welch
29. 3. Barriers to Leadership
SLOTH: Physical laziness, failure to do things that one should do.
Evil exists when good men fail to act.

thoughtful, concerned citizens can
change the world. Indeed it is the
only thing that ever has”
- Margaret Mead

“love of justice perverted to revenge and spite” - Dante

that people would follow
voluntarily; even if you had no
title or position”

ENVY: The envious desire and coveting of another’s traits, status,
abilities or rewards.
34. Quote
“Effective leadership is not about
making speeches or being liked;
leadership is defined by results not
attributes.”

35. 3. Barriers to Leadership
PRIDE: Often considered the most serious sin. Believing you are
better than others, failing to recognize others & excessive admiration
of self.
36. Quote
“The best executive is the one who
has the sense to pick good men to do
what he wants done, and self-
restraint enough to keep from
meddling with them while they do it.”
- Theodore Roosevelt

want to go. A great leader take
people where they don’t necessarily

It is what you do that matters - Far more important that what you say. Practice what you preach.

Unpopular decisions
Victim cases especially
I did this for fun
I have used the 7 deadly sins to train LEO ethics
It is usually one of these that takes them down. True with public officials. Laziness, sex or money often involved. Most of the public officials have no previous criminal history.
What is remarkable is that we have known these behaviors are destructive for a couple thousand years and we are still trying to find a cure for evil, sinful, negative or unhealthy thinking.
Be selfless. It is never about you.
Self-preservation instincts turn a blind eye in many offices
All about me and my needs.
Some interesting data in the videos.
I have not verified the numbers. But if it is on the internet it has to be true.
Each of these is about a minute in length
Be a cheerleader
Power of positive feedback
Taking more than one really needs.
We are all probably guilty of this one to some degree. Maybe that is why this is better left as a sin vs a crime
You must be the ultimate servant.
It is important to be a good follower when opportunities present themselves
I just need a little more.
You office
IPAC can make positive change
Pick up the trash, be willing to do the dirty work. If you do it everyone will.
Results matter we all know that.
Build positive outcomes.
Trust your people, be willing to let them make mistakes.
Tough with new deputies
Quote from my father.
Do not lose your humanity
Do not become angry at the world.
There are good people and they are the silent majority.
You have a major role in improving civility.
The world is full of jerks – don’t be one

So what is wrong with us.
We are all guilty of this and I do not think we really even think about the impact of these attitudes
We accept them as normal. I know I am guilty of this
These attitudes lead to all kinds of trouble and impact our integrity and ethics

Kiss method always works.
Let the small stuff go
Eating more healthy, exercise, drinking less
Do your job well, truly give 110% instead of talking about it
Col story
Be disciplined and work on it.
We all see this person.
As parents we clearly see better versions of our children
We see potential everywhere
We know we can go better, have you given up trying

Treat everyone the same
Like who you see in the mirror.
