Participants:
All the participants were the Community Resource Person (CRPs) of the
organization Parivartan, Malkhangiri, associated with community based inland
fisheries activities.
The Training-Write shop:
The program started with an ice breaking session wherein Ms. Alka Pandey asked
all the participants to introduce themselves and to share the best moments they
had in their tenure till then. All the participants came up with the successes,
achievements they have and the immense pleasure and feeling of pride they have
got. Participants talked about the importance of institution building, savings,
following recommended
management practices
etc. and how all these
activities led to less
dependence on the
external support. There
are some stories on the
achievements of some
proactive farmers and
the generation of
revenue and profit
therein. Change in
feeding practices,
increasing number of ponds, shifting of fingerlings from dry water bodies to paddy
fields etc. are the other considerable experiences that were shared during the
session.
The facilitators familiarized the participants with the purpose of the program and
the essence of documentation in keeping evidence of work and reviewing the same.
They reiterate the fact that unless there is standard process of documentation
related to field operation, it is close to impossible to track progress and also
inferior standard of documentation leads to lesser visibility.
Mr. Pranesh came up with an innovative way to engage people by introducing
miniscule games. The games came out as a great energizer as all the participants
enjoyed it thoroughly.

After the lunch break the participants were asked to write their experiences and
then to paste them in a chart paper so that they can present their stories. Five
groups were formed for the preparation of presentations. All the groups showed
highest level of enthusiasm and zenith of perfection when it comes down to design
their chart papers. A number of stories were presented during the session with
appealing visuals.
Later on the day the facilitators shared their reflections on the presentations and
discussed some points for improvement. The participants also asked to give
feedback about the exercises they did throughout the day. Ms. Alka Pandey
concluded the proceedings of the day by some closure points about the program
like- importance of peer learning, record keeping etc. She also appreciated the
aesthetical imagination and expressions of the participants and mentioned that a
basketful of useful byproducts can be expected out of this program.
Day 2 started with sharing of challenges that participants faced during their field
operations. Difficulties related to mobilizing people, meeting the time deadlines,
distant field locations, delayed supply of different inputs etc. were discussed
during the session.
As newsletter preparation was one of the most important agenda for the day, so
the facilitators briefed about the essence of periodic newsletters and also
showcased sample
newsletters for better clarity.
The participants divided
into five groups and were
given the task of newsletter
preparation. All the groups
prepared their own
newsletters by assimilating

their achievements till date and their future plans.
After lunch the participants presented their newsletters and it was really an
interactive session. The participants showcased highest level of precision and
innovativeness in their newsletters and the whole session came out as a productive
one. From all the
presentation it was quite
evident that the participants
understood the idea of
newsletter very well and are
in a good position to
produce quality material in
the future course of time.
The facilitators appreciated
the meticulousness with which the participants prepared their newsletters and
suggested some minor corrections for improvement. They also asked the
participants to think of some cost effective measures for the circulation of
newsletters at village level and how this will reduce the drudgery of the CRPs to
sensitize and mobilize people.
Day 3 proceedings started with a briefing on the purpose of having thematic
folders and how this will help the CRPs in better coordination and management.
The participants worked in groups to prepare thematic folders and came up with
some useful ones. They presented their folders and had a detailed discussion with
the facilitators for further improvement.
Later on the day the participants gave their feedback on the whole program in
terms of the extent to which it met their expectations. The facilitators asked the
participants to take some actions on a priority basis, like- laminating all the
materials developed during the write-shop, developing some printed materials in
oriya by the help of a local designer.
