Open Savannah, an official local brigade of Code for America, seeks to forge an alliance between technologists, citizens and public servants for better government data and services.
2. What the heck is
'Open Savannah'?
• A new, inclusive, mission-driven group of civic-minded residents,
technologists, entrepreneurs and everyday people working together
with government to help provide more accessible public data and
services
• An official local brigade of Code for America (but don't let the code
part scare you!)
3. Who is Open Savannah?
• Programmers, but not all of us (no, you need not know a single thing
about code to take part!)
• Designers, but not all of us
• Civil servants, but not all of us
• Everyday people, from teachers to tour guides to Gulfstream
engineers
Citizens of Savannah area, all of us
5. What we mean when we say 'open' knowledge/
data:
"Knowledge is open if anyone is free to access, use, modify, and share it
— subject, at most, to
measures that preserve provenance and openness."
-Open Knowledge Foundation
6. What our goals include
• Make Savannah a 'smart city' with 'open government' technologies
• Break down technological and social barriers to information
• Make public services easier
• Increase transparency of and trust in our government agencies
through open data initiatives
• Build apps and solutions to current community problems or data
needs
7. The current public data landscape in Savannah/Chatham
A little convoluted, you think?
