1. 900701: BUSINESS ENGLISH

1. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course aims to provide a practical application of basic language usage skills
with an emphasis on fundamentals of reading, note-taking, and oral presentation
in business contexts.
2. COURSE OBJECTIVE:
To develop various types of English language skills in business-related topics e.g.,
reading strategies, listening comprehension from lectures and media, analytical
thinking, and oral presentation. Throughout this course, students will be exposed
to a variety of sources, including business articles, news, case studies, and
reports.

7. ATTENDANCE:
Students are expected to attend all sessions in this course, arrive on time, and
stay for the whole time. If students have more than four absences, they may be
dropped from the class.
8. ASSESSMENT:
To pass this course, students must achieve a minimum of 70 per cent on overall
evaluation. Your grade in this course will have the following components:
1. Assignments 20%
2. 2 Quizzes 30%
3. Group Presentation 15%
4. Final Examination 35%

9. CONTENTS
The contents of this course include the following topics:
• Getting meaning from context;
• Recognizing synonyms;
• Predicting content of a reading: skimming and scanning;

2. • Identifying the topic and man idea;
• Understanding the main idea and details;
• Organizing information by using an outline;
• Identifying inferences;
• Recognizing summaries in a reading;
• Analyzing graphs;
• Describing statistics;
• Recognizing the format of the abstract from academic journals;
• Delivering oral presentation.
