3. What is Air Pollution?
⢠Air pollution is the presence of substances(i.e. air pollutants) in the atmosphere that are
harmful to the health of humans and other living beings, or cause damage to
the climate or to materials.
⢠Air pollutants can be:
Gases ( ammonia, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrous
oxides, methane and chlorofluorocarbons)
Particulates (both organic and inorganic)
Biological molecules

4. Sources of Air Pollution
⢠Burning of Fossil Fuels
⢠Agricultural activities
⢠Waste in Landfills
⢠Exhaust from factories and industries
⢠Mining Operations
⢠Indoor Air Pollution
⢠Natural Events

5. How Air Pollution is measured?
⢠Air quality is expressed in terms of AQI( Air Quality Index).
⢠It gives the index value that what is the current pollution status in the city and how
polluted the air currently is.
⢠There are eight pollutants whose concentration is measured and then based on
that (minimum three pollutants) AQI is calculated.
⢠As the AQI value increases, health impacts become serious.

13. Conclusions
⢠Air Pollution is a major environmental issue.
⢠It can affect the health and life support systems as well.
⢠Since clear air is an essential factor of life for respiration, it is necessary to prevent
the sources of Air Pollution.
⢠Air Pollution causes destructive phenomena like Acid Rai, Global Warming etc.
⢠Using appropriate controlling devices and processes, the pollutants in the Air can
be removed.
