3. Introduction
• The advent of motion graphics and high performance computing enabled creation of high
quality realistic 2D and 3D Product animations, the latter is visually more appealing due to
realistic presentation.
• In engineering industry mechanical 3D product animations, not only makes the product
looks realistic, but shows in-depth details of the process of dismantling and assembly.
• The animations are not only visually appealing to the viewers but also technically sound
and informative. Mechanical 3D Product animations are also used to showcase design
concepts to investors, in Product launches and other marketing requirements.
4. Requirement understanding and
project brief
• Understanding the customer requirement is key to the success of any Product
animation. By knowing the target audience, one can set the animation track in an
interesting and convincing manner.
• Once the necessary attributes and applications of the product is understood, the
research follows on how best the video should be to benefit the targeted
audience.
5. Storyboard Development
• Once the requirement is understood, a detailed script is developed based on the
information gathered. Now it is time that we put the scripts largely in textual
format to visual images or sketches.
• A series of sequences is created based on how the final animation video. The idea
of story-boarding is to review the flow animation sequences, include or delete any
sequences before the actual work begins.
6. Model Rigging & Concept Animation
• Once the storyboard is all set and the actual animation work begins. The animator
carefully chooses the model and rigs the model to make it easier to work on the
animation tool. A sample renders are then taken to see how the output is after
rigging.
• Once the rigging of the model is complete, the camera angel is set for different
sequences and the flow of animation is created in the 3D platform. The speed/pan
of camera movement is set for each sequence and concept video is developed for
client review.
7. Colour schemes, texture and renders
• This is the most crucial and time-consuming part in any animation process. Once
the preview video is reviewed and cleared for go-ahead from Client. The actual
colours and texture of all components are set. A lot of renders are taken at this
stage to check the appearance of the product.
• Finally, when renders are approved, the animator sets different sequences of the
video to high resolution render using a render engine. This is the most computer
intensive and time-consuming part of the animation, the rendering process run for
hours, days or even weeks based on the detailing of the model to be captured.
8. Post-production and release
• The final render output sequences are stitched together by the animator. The
background scene and lighting are checked to enhance the quality of the output.
Once it is set, a background voiceover or music is added to the animation.
• Finally based on client’s reaction and feedback, the revisions are made and the
fresh results are delivered. The 3D product animation video is now ready for
release.
