Chiumento is a UK – based integrated talent management
consultancy firm that provides intelligently tailored and
integrated solutions to various companies.
Respondent profile: 1063 respondents (547 and 516 women)
. aged from 18 to 65 years old in full or part – time work in the
UK. All are employed in organization of 20 staff or more.
Research was conducted in November to December 2006.
4. The happiness index is 6.5 out of 10.
One quarter of employees describe themselves as “very
happy” at work.
Around half the workforce (56%) are “fairly happy.”
One in five employees are unhappy at work.
73% of people cite relationships with colleagues as being the
key factor in happiness at work.
Lack of communication from the top was seen as one of the
biggest causes of unhappiness.
5. Those who have been in the same role for eight years or more (75%) are
the least happy, while those who have been in their current job for less
than a year are much happier (83%).
Organizations with over 1000 staff consider themselves happy (78%).
82% women employees claim to be happy with their jobs compared to
their male counterparts (78%).
At 85%, those aged 55+ are the happiest employees, possibly because
they reached the pinnacle of their career. The next happiest age group is
the under 25s at 80%, who are excited to build their career. The least
happy are employees in their 40s (77%) who face the prospect of working
for at least 20 more years.
85% of senior managers & those at board level are happy, making them
the happiest employee group. Service staff and those working in sales
are the next happiest (83%).
