2. 1. BACKGROUND OF THE
PROBLEM
The central government plans to remove or abolish
English Subject from the curriculum of Elementary
School education in Indonesia.
Basically, English is not a compulsory subject to be
taught at all of the Elementary School in Indonesia.
Because English is the additional subject (local
content) which has become a compulsory subject.
Language education needs to be taught as early as
possible because of the golden period of language
development that childrens between the ages of 6 and
13 years old also knows as Elementary School period.
CHAPTER I
2. IDENTIFICATION OF THE
PROBLEM
1. Student needs to learn English especially for
Elementary student.
2. The advantage of learning English nowadays.
3. OPERATIONAL DEFINITON
1. Definition of Education
According to Wikipedia, education is a form of learning in which
the knowledge, skills and habits of a group of people are
transferred from one generation to the next through teaching,
training or research. So we can conclude that, education is attitude
changing system and behavior of individual or group in maturing
human through studying, course, system, steps, and educated
acts.
2. Definition of Abolishment
According to Oxford Dictionary, abolishments is formally put an
end to a system, practice or institution. So itâs more like removal
of something. So we can conclude that, abolishment of English
3. 1. SUPPORTING ARGUEMENT
(PROS)
Such as MusliarKasim (The Vice of Minister of Education and Cultural)
delivered two compelling reasons as to shift the position of English as
load of students as well as concerns that Elementary students more
focus on learning our national language Bahasa Indonesia than
learning the foreign language (English) which is not that important for
some of Elementary students. The main factors of abolishment the
English subject in Elementary School are:
1) English subject considered as the hardest subject for Elementary
students, because they canât focus on the primary subjects such as
Math, Biology, and even the national language Bahasa Indonesia.
2) The goverment thinks that Bahasa Indonesia needs to be
emphasized than English.
CHAPTER II
2. CONTRASTING
ARGUEMENTS (CONS)
Mastering of the English is also very important because Bali is one
of the leading tourism destinations in the world. Without
mastering the English, the people of Bali will be a spectator in the
midst of the on going tourism sparkling in front of their eyes.
If we are not mastering the English, we canât survive for traveling
around the world, we canât communicate to others, and its not
fun at all. And if we can speak English, the world is in our hand.
4. 1. CONCLUSION
Itâs very unfortunate if English is removed in Elementary School,
because starting from this level a.k.a Elementary School level, the
students that are introduced to English this early and began to be
taught the basics of writing and pronunciation, it will help them to be
easier to continue it in the next level, such as Junior High or College.
So, when they are already know how to communicate with English, the
world is in their hand. Elementary School is the right time to introduce
the English and start to speak English everyday.
CHAPTER III
2. RECOMMENDATION
English should not be abolished in Elementary School,
there are so many advantages to learn English for our life and
plus English is an international language that spoken by many
peoples in this world. If we can speak English, we will not
fooled by foreign peoples.
