When you sign into your Twitter account, you will see a homepage comprised of a number of elements and functionalities In this tour you will learn about the key elements to know in order to help you get started (though the list is not exhaustive): The home button, where a blue light will appear when there are new tweets to download from the feed The feed, where your tweets and those of your followers will appear (they can be expanded for more detail or collapsed to take up less space in your feed Your main profile summary, which can be used to click on to access: your profile page your past tweets the list of users you follow; and the list of profiles for those who follow you The connect section, which shows when there has been activity by other users related to you or something you’ve tweeted, including: all interactions with you (primarily users who @mention you, ‘favourite’ your tweets, or follow you) only mentions (when a user specifically mentions your @username) The search bar, which allows you to search Twitter for information (NOTE: it’s best used only to save hashtag searches since Google’s search engine is much more precise at searching) Your profile and messages area, specifically: how to access your direct messages The compose button Your profile area Your feed Where to compose a tweet
When you sign in to Twitter, you will be taken to a main page. This is called your ‘homepage’ The blue light beneath your homepage denotes tweets that have not yet been viewed (note the ‘5 new tweets’ under ‘Tweets’)
Collapsing tweets reduces the room that individual tweets take up in your feed.
