The document discusses the challenges facing food safety systems in Nigeria. It outlines several challenges, including overlapping functions between relevant bodies leading to duplication of efforts; inadequate training and funding for laboratories; lack of hazard analysis and critical control point programs; and poor collaboration between government, regulators, and other stakeholders. The document recommends improving cooperation between agencies, developing a national food safety plan, establishing a risk analysis center, and conducting more research on food safety issues in Nigeria.

11. The National Food Safety Systems Control Mechanisms are in no small wise bedeviled by a multi hydra headed challenges, which of course require a multidimensional approach, some of which have been mentioned above. However, there is a need for a Public cum Leadership awareness campaign designed to achieving a Food Safety conscious Nigeria which will go a long way in abating some of these challenges. More so, the employment of verifiable scientific and technical information and data as it concerns diseases, cure, new techniques, method and analytical procedures should be made available through information gathering and dissemination to Farmers, Food Industries and Consumer in order to prevent and control food-borne diseases, under a monitored control systems strategy. Also, the issue of use and consumption of genetically modified food and organisms as well as effect of new chemical fertilizers, insecticides, fungicides and others is a novel area that should be given attention and closely monitored with outcomes of research.
