I was asked to present to the final year computing students in ITT Talaght, a technical college in Dublin, Ireland. The subject matter covers 'What a professional needs', or words of experience. We needed to cover the need for continuous development, education and professional qualifications as well as some of the skills needed to work within the big bad world.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS • Not as good as an academic qualification • Some are more valuable than others • Good way to show mastery Some Jobs need it (eg consulting) But some can be misleading • The more IT focused, the more they are required • Cutting edge areas don’t require these, but need academic ones
