"PREPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF
CELLULOSIC HYDROGEL FOR USE AS METAL IONS AND
WATER SORPTION"
This work was aiming to prepare an economic superabsorbent
polymeric hydrogel from cellulosic material (bagasse and cotton linter)
2. for water sorption and metal ions uptake. The study involved a
comparison in behavior between cotton linter and bagasse pulps
(prepared at two different pulping conditions) towards gel formation. This
polymer has many applications such as personal hygiene, firefighting,
drug delivery, water reservoir in agriculture and petroleum recovery.
PhD degree
"PREPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF SOME
NEW POLYMERIC NANOCOMPOSITE MATERIALS AND ITS
APPLICATIONS"
This work is aiming to improve the physical, thermal and
mechanical properties of conventional poly(styrene-co-butyl acrylate)
emulsion by seed emulsion polymerization with functionalized nano
organo-silica. The vinyl groups located on the surface of nano-silica were
used to induce the polymerization process and the encapsulation to the
co-polymer emulsion to obtain core-shell structure. The prepared nano
organo-silica/ styrene/ butyl acrylate co-polymer emulsion has promising
applications in:
1- Anti-reflection coating in solar cell systems.
2- Flame retardant coating.
3- As reinforcing polymer material to enhance the thermal and
mechanical properties of ethylene vinyl acetate co-polymer
(EVA).
