3. Pornography Today
• Porn has seeped into our culture in a way
that it hasn’t in the past
• Fifty Shades of Grey book series has made
porn more appealing to women
– 30% of porn is viewed by women
4. The 3 Biggest Myths
About Pornography:
It doesn’t affect me.
I’ll quit later.
I’m not hurting anybody.
5. How Does Porn Affect You?
• Porn teaches that someone is an object to be
used for your pleasure
– It reduces a man/woman to their physical
parts, to the absence of the spirit, the
relationship, and of the emotions
6. The Script of Pornography
• Pornography creates a script of how you’re
supposed to engage in relationships
– Sex is best experienced outside of a loving
relationship
– All women want sex from men
– Women like all sexual acts men perform/demand
– Any woman who doesn’t realize this can be
persuaded with a little force
7. Can You Quit Later?
• If you cannot control your sexual urges
now, you will not be able to control them
when you get married
• As someone looks at a pornographic
magazine or movie, they start to form
pathways in their brains and they associate
sexual pleasure with those images
8. Pornography & Brain Chemicals
• Dopamine
– “Reward” chemical that makes us feel good for taking
risks
– Same chemical that is released when drugs are taken
• Oxytocin
– “Bonding” hormone that triggers feelings of trust in
women
– Watching porn damages the chemical so it’s no longer
there in the way God designed it to be
• Vasopressin
– “Monogamy” molecule that causes bonding in males
9. Are You Hurting Anybody?
• Our culture has bought into this idea that we
can do whatever we want as long as we don’t
hurt anybody else
• The wrong things we do ALWAYS hurt
somebody
• Even if it just hurts us right now, it will affect
us in our relationships with other people
10. How to Win the Battle with Porn
• Find a way to help those who are trapped in
the pornographic industry
• Commit your life to teaching biblical sexuality
to the church
• Two essential spiritual weapons
– True desire for God to heal you and work in your
life
– Realization that you cannot do it by your own
strength
11. Pornography is one of the hardest
addictions to break.
It’s not humans who break it, it’s
the power of God alone.
