Persuasion
• Persuasion by Jane Austen was written in
  1816.
• Jane Austen wrote it the year before her death
and it was published the year after (1818)
Chapter 5
• Admiral and Mrs. Croft visit Kellynch, they will
  rent Kellynch.
• Sir Walter and Elizabeth decide to take Mrs.
Clay with them to Bath as an assistant.
• Mrs. Clay is described to be a non-desirable
  person to look at.
• Mary asks that Anne to stay with her for a few
  weeks at the Uppercross Cottage.
• Anne finds Mary in a bad mood lying on the
couch complaining that she feels lonely.
• She goes out with Mary to visit Musgroves at
  the Great House.
• We are introduced to the Musgroves ,a happy
family, Henrietta and Lousia who are the adult
  children named in the book.
• Later she encourages Miss Musgrove to join
her and Mary for a walk.
Chapter 6
• Anne, notices the difference in social cultures,
where in her family they talk about
appearance and social standings, where the
  Musgrove’s talk about Newspapers and
  hunting.
• They describe their marriage, Charles and
  Mary, to be happy.
• Charles is better with the children, and they
seem to accept Anne more than Mary.
• While Anne is there Mary is happier knowing she
  has a companion.
• Both Charles and his parents wish Anne would
show Mary how to better manage her children
  and home.
• Anne is bothered the the Crofts now live in
  Kellynch.
• Mary and Anne decide to pay a visit to the Crofts
• Miss Croft mentions that her brother Captain
Wentworth will come to visit soon.
• Anne is excited and unneverd by the news.
• Miss Musgrove remembered her son Dick who
  had served for Captain Wentworth.
• Dick was a troublesome son he left to the
Navy at the age of twenty but later died.
Chapter 7
• The Captain arrives Mr. Musgrove invites him
to the Great House, Mary and Anne are also
  invited.
• Anne is nervous, and in all the fuss of fixing up
and arriving to the Great House Mary’s oldest
son fell and dislocated his collarbone.
• Henrietta and Louisa Musgrove come to visit,
they say that Captain Wentworth that they are
in love and pleased by him.
• It is annouced that the Captain will eat
  breakfast at the Great House.
• Charles told Mary to say with the child while
he dined with Captain Wentworth, she was
mad, Anne told her to go that she would stay.
• The Captain and Anne have a quick glance at
each other but nothing more, she decides to
  know his feelings for her.
• It says that the Captain has not forgiven her,
and that he is looking for a pleasing woman to
  marry anyone except Anne.
Chapter 8
• The Captain and Anne must now dine
together, they never spoke other than when
  needed.
• Miss Musgroves asks the Captain about what
had happened to her eldest son Dick.
• Later in the dinner Captain Wentworth says
that women should not aboard a ship, altough
Mrs. Croft denies his thoughts and telling him
it will change once he is married.
• Anne starts playing the piano, she reflects on
the night and she’s hurt by the Captains cold
  politeness.
Characters 5-8
• Louisa Musgrove : Charles's younger sister, she
  admires the Navy excessively.
• Henrietta Musgrove : Older sister of Louisa.
• Mr. and Mrs. Musgrove : Parents of Charles,
  Louisa and Henrietta, balanced family.
• Admiral and Mrs. Croft - The amiable couple
that rents Kellynch Hall when Sir Walter can’t
afford to stay there. The Admiral is a Naval officer
and his wife travels with him when he is at sea
Setting and Atmosphere
• Chapter 5: Setting was Kellynch, Bath and
  Uppercross Cottage.
• Atmosphere was a tense one since Anne did
not want to leave Kellynch to the Crofts.
• Chapter 6: Setting was Uppercross Cottage.
• Atmosphere was also tensed since Mary
wasn’t in a good mood until she’s with Anne.
Then there is a sense of relief in the house.
• Chapter 7 : Setting Kellynch Uppercross
  Cottage.
• Atmosphere Anne is nervous because she is
finally going to see Captain Wentworth.
• Chapter 8 : Setting Uppercross Cottage and
  Kellynch.
• Atmosphere is cold between the Captain and
Anne, everyone else is happy and ignorant
over the situation between Anne and
  Wentworth.
Conclusion
• In conclusion we can see that Anne is suffering
  from loneliness, regretting not marrying
Wentworth when she had the opportunity.
• We can also see Anne’s frustration with her
  family moving away from Kellynch.
• Reading these four chapters also reminded me
of pride & prejudice, it has the same outcome
  and theme.
