In this act
⢠Adulterant means any material which is or could be
employed purposes of adulteration;
⢠Adulterated- An article of food shall be deemed to be
adulterated.

15. DETAILS OF DIFFERENT SURVEYS
⢠A survey by FSSAI in 2012, 68% milk samples was found
to be adulterated in which 31 % were from rural areas.
⢠In Uttarakhand, 88% milk was found to be adulterated.
⢠In the year 2010-2011, India was ranked among the top 5
countries in the world producing 121.8 million tonnes of
milk.
⢠Total of 1791 samples of milk were randomly collected
from 33 states, 1226 (68.4 per cent) samples of milk were
found to be non-conforming

Detergent is present in milk. Consumption
of detergent-adulterated milk is a health
hazard and indicates a lack of hygiene and
sanitation in milk handling.
The second highest parameter of non-
conformity was skim milk powder

1. Consumer are well aware of the food adulteration and
many of them have faced food adulteration problem.
2. Even facing problem of food adulteration roughly 50%
of them has complaint about it.
3. Consumers are also aware of the adulterant use in their
product.
4. In our survey we have also found that consumer gives
more priority to quality than price.
