in a changing world
A human-centered approach to design goes deeper than buzz words like
empathy marketing and personalized marketing - you need to dig deep to
discover the core values of customer and what drives them.
To quote Philip Kotler, “Human-centric marketing is defined by brands that
approach engaging their current and prospective customers via advertising
and marketing tactics as whole human beings with hearts, minds, and
spirits.”

Robust product design goes through a rigorous problem-solving
process where the design team tests and retests how the
product will be used to improve the end user’s quality of life,
environment and satisfaction.
Real human beings need creative solutions and the ability to
pivot quickly in a world that is rapidly converting against
consumerism. Despite and maybe even because of AI creep in
our markets and material world, a human centered approach is
becoming a novelty - and hence, a valuable commodity.
Looking beyond
branding and
influence
Branding doesn’t end with designing of the name, website or
logo of the company. No doubt, these things are major aspects
of your marketing strategy but they may not even create an
impact if your product doesn’t solve a real problem for your
users.
Good product design to effectively communicates with the
consumer - and hopefully resonates with their aesthetic and
moral value systems. Today more than ever, social sentiment
based on economical, ecological and technological preferences
is constantly altering how people feel about products.

branding
Human-centered design requires attention to several factors
including, but not limited to, environmental, social and
economical factors of the consumers. It also includes looking
closer into what motivates consumers and how to influence
them to make the choices you need them to make.

2. Prioritizing Expertise
The world has become more complex &
there is a growing need to create forces of
experts to deal with issues. Businesses
need to develop a team who can explore
the entire customer journey of the
business. Often, the trip is broken down
into bite-sized particles, which make the
customer experience inconsistent as it is
not seamlessly attached.
1. Bridging Gaps
There have literally been 100s internet of
things applications mushrooming all over
the world over the past decade. However,
there is still a gap in usability, delivery &
aesthetics when it comes to most product
platforms. As marketers & designers, we
need to constantly look for ways to
improve the ease of use while shortening
the delivery process on both ends.

4. Deep Technology
2021 is the year we can say that we are
not clear about how technology will
affect people tomorrow. Thinking about
the long-term changes in technology
and the human impact allows us to
structure and plan more meaningfully.
We know we will not always get it right,
but it is better to plan than to
constantly apologize.
3. Super Customer
We can all find what we need in 3 seconds
on one mobile and reach out to those who
want to get suggestions or guidance.
Customers have found their voice and will
speak up if they find flaws or ways to
improve your products. If the business
uses technology and work in silos, it gets
tricky, as customers may know more than
those in the business.

The design process is divided into many different phases, which
include various forms of sketching and prototyping. However,
sometimes the idea starts from a problem people may
experience and design a solution to solve it. It is about
establishing a link between the user and the environment,
using an object to address a need.
Applying
human-centered
design across
industries
Product design is a major crowd pull especially in technology
markets like laptops or smartphones.
Even in heavy machinery or services, design plays a major role
because it can be the difference between efficiency and chaos.
Design can be in various forms and better the acceptability of
the product design over time, the better the brand built for the
organization.
Nokia was a brand built solely on the feedback of “user friendly
phones”. This was nothing but a product design manoeuvre.
Packaging plays a major role in product design as it is the last point of
influence and hence the last sales point for the company. Good packaging
incorporated in product design can make a huge difference.
Designing products with a human-centered approach is important. The
process of designing and picking the packaging must be strategic keeping in
mind its usability, utility, ergonomic features, colour scheme and so on.
