Team Smush created a video to motivate incoming defensive linemen at Utah State about their unique 3-4 defensive approach. The video grabs attention with exciting game footage and loud music, then establishes relevance by providing statistics on successful former players. It incorporates aspects of ARCS motivation theory and procedural learning theory. Specifically, it includes a step-by-step walkthrough of the bridge explode technique using analogies and imagery to relate it to players' existing knowledge. The goal is to provide background before practice so players are more prepared to implement the techniques on the field.

and showing whether correct or incorrect.
4. Teach the responsibilities of the defensive linemen.
a. Show video clips of the individual steps of the bridge explode technique using game and
practice film and analogies, while pausing at key points and explaining the benefits.
PIP #4 DesignPlan
Because our mission statement focused in part on motivation, we incorporated aspects of ARCS
motivation into our program. We did this by first grabbing the attention of viewer with exciting game
footage with loud music in the background that lets the viewer see how aggressive the defense is. We
established relevance with the viewer by providing statistics of some of the well known players that have
been recognized while using this systems.
We incorporated the Procedural theory into the project by including a step-by-step walkthrough
of the bridge explode. In each step we use an analogy video that incorporates secondary learning
strategies relating to previous knowledge of the viewer. This provides imagery of the new information
using the pictures and videos to create personalized context for the system.
The information that we cover in this film is used as an overview for what the players will be
doing on the field. Because of this the information covered is best taught in a classroom setting that will
2. transfer onto the field. By providing a background of the system and showing the steps of what they will
be doing, the players will enter practice with a basic understanding and will be more prepared.
PIP #5 – Production
Created a video using Camtasia with video clips, examples and a step-by-step walk through of the bridge
explode.
Justification- The video was created to quickly show an overview of the new information and
then the techniques will be practiced on the field.
