 Focus of Student Affairs
 Student Affairs is not in competition with other
campus offices
 Student Affairs seeks collaboration and
opportunities to enhance the student experience
while matriculating.
Hellen Keller said “Alone we can do so little;
together we can do so much”.
 Provide academic and social support
 Students may not be prepared for the rigors of
college coursework so the college should provide an
array of support structures
 Students need “safe havens” as they learn to
navigate campuses
 Counseling
 Mentoring
 Connections to peers
The Role of Student Affairs
 Academic and social integration opportunities with
faculty, peers, and staff members
 The more students learn, the more they find value in
their learning, and the more they persist and
continue on to graduate
 Build educational communities of learning
Role of Student Affairs
 Support the student as he/she transitions from
different points of entry into college (high school,
transfer, military, career changers
 Adult Student Services offers academic planning for
evening, working, married, parents or 22+ years of
age.
 Emotional growth and personal well-being contribute
significantly to a positive, holistic educational
experience, professional counseling services to all
students within the college community
 Financial aid is available to remove the cost barriers
that may prevent you from pursuing your
educational goals. Assistance is available from a
variety of programs funded by federal, state,
university and private sources.

 International Student Services offers a wide variety of
services to student and programs to ease the transition
to college The Student Affairs departments connects the
international students to campus and community
resources as well as referral to government issues
relating to visas and immigration issues.
 Minority Student Services represent an institutional
commitment to create and foster an environment that
values diversity while encouraging an appreciation and
respect for differences.
 Residential Life relationships and connections with your
peers, faculty, staff, at the college. Becoming involved on
campus—through student organizations, community
service, and participating in programs and events in your
residence hall and beyond—will help you to create a
balanced college experience and make residential life
feel like home.

 Student Affairs supports the academic mission of the college by
providing services which assist students in recognizing and
succeeding in their educational goals. Student Affairs role is to
develop programming which augments the learning environment on
campus which in turn serves to improve the quality of life for students
and others. Student Affairs activities which stimulate and foster an
appreciation for the college wrapped in its stated mission, values, and
polices.
 Respect and appreciation of the diverse backgrounds represented on
the campus and the well-being and life choices of students; and a
campus environment which encourages a creative exchange of ideas.
