INTERNATIONAL ROOTS FESTIVAL 2014
MBE CONSULTING, INC., like to welcome you along with The Ministry of Tourism & Culture, The
Republic of The Gambia (http://www.motc.gm), The International Roots Festival 2014, 11th
edition
(http://www.rootsgambia.gm) : theme this year: “Celebrating Unity Through Culture”. MBE
Consulting, Inc. (http://www.mbeconsulting.net) is pleased and happy to announce affiliation and
association in working with The Ministry of Tourism & Culture of The Gambia in promoting this
historical, cultural and educational event in the Midwestern regions of the United States. As a descendant
of Africa, a Native Chicagoan and an African American business woman, and a person committed to the
well-being of Africans and the Development of Africa; I too welcome all people of African descendant
and the Diaspora to come home to mother Africa and show your full participation in the 11th
edition of the
International Roots Festival. This event is indeed both a historical, cultural and educational event. ‘For
over 400 years our people have been separated by the results of the African Holocaust (Trans-Atlantic
Slave Trade) and the legacy of colonization has kept us at odds with our true history, identity, cultural
traditions while preventing unity and growth amongst African People and the African Continent. Now, is
the time to come home to Mama Africa and share in the welcoming of us home to our original self?
The International Roots Festival commemorates the enforced enslavement and transportation of
millions of Africans to the Americas and the Caribbean Islands. Africans and friends of Africa from the
Diaspora are presented with a unique opportunity to attend and participate in The International Roots
Festival. Come home and experience the African Continent. Confront a physical past and glimpse the
horizon of a brighter future. Come home, rediscover and reaffirm your African heritage, be at one with
your people and your ancestral family. This is your opportunity to visit places of Historical, Cultural and
Educational interest such as Juffereh (The Late Alex Haley's Ancestral home), Fort James Island, and
Georgetown (now Janjanbureh). Establish cultural ties. Attend International Musical Concerts, Cultural
Jamborees, Visit a traditional African Batik Factory, Craft Markets, experience traditional African
cuisine, Hairstyles, Fashions and Jewelry; Witness Traditional events. See you soon and always for Mama
Africa…
Forward Ever!

This event: The International Roots Festival commemorates the enforced enslavement and transportation of
millions of Africans to the Americas and the Caribbean Islands. Africans and friends of Africa from the Diaspora are
presented with a unique opportunity to attend and participate in The International Roots Festival.
This event: Is both a historical, cultural and educational event. ‘For over 400 years our people have been separated
by the results of the African Holocaust (Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade) and the legacy of colonization has kept us at
odds with our true history, identity, cultural traditions while preventing unity and growth amongst African People
and the African Continent.
Dr. Julius Garvey, MD, the Son of the Honorable Mosiah Marcus Garvey pioneer of modern Black Nationalism- is
the keynote speaker during the awards African Gala Dinner. Dr. Garvey is an established Medical Doctor and
Cardiac Surgeon; however, he is also an astute Pan Africanist and continues the same road as his father did more
than 70 years ago-that of Black Pride. Marcus Garvey, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year, was
a powerful orator who was able to gather hundreds of thousands of blacks across many countries in his quest to
reclaim Africa for Africans and build black economic power.
Dr. Runoko Rashidi, University of California Professor, and world renowned Lecturer on African and
Ancient African History, also confirmed speaker; is an International Lecturer, Author and Historian; is a
renounced Pan Africanist, and today’s leading African and African American Historian of The Global African
Presence, he’s written a series of books on African History and her World Influence. He’s a leading lecturer and
worldwide scholar on this topic along with world history.
Brother Mutabaruka, Jamaican, Artist/Poet and Entertainer, we have also confirmed, Jamaica’s Poet Laureate,
Radio Talk Show Host on IRIE-FM, and Author, will perform and present; Mutabaruka is much more than an
international recording artist He owns and operates a sound system that plays black music from all over the world;
he conducts a late-night radio talk show; and, in accepting invitations to talk and to read his poems, he seems
equally at home in an ordinary classroom and on stage at a reggae concert. When he is on tour he may be addressing
college audiences, or mesmerizing huge rock festivals, or playing in small nightclubs. He is an experienced
communicator, with charisma and a range of skills.
There will be live entertainment throughout the week of events; registration fees are $150/ per week for entire week
of festivities if you decide to book your own package. Tour Packages are $3600 USD for our 2-week Early Bird
