10. A METHOD OF SEPARATION OF PECTIN DURING MEMBRANE CLARIFICATION OF FRUIT JUICE
FOR PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT
The present invention relates to a process of pectin separation during membrane clarification of citrus fruit
juice by advantageous application of the electric field assisted Ultrafiltration system operated at variable
trans-membrane pressure difference, to effect significant cross-flow velocity and thereby achieving
substantial improvement in the filtration speed and time. The negatively charged pectin in fruit juices,
higher at higher pH value.
Application of external electrical field during membrane separation in the present invention
advantageously utilizes the charged nature of pectin. Moreover, pectin and its derivatives being gel
forming materials, it has tendency to decrease the filtration rate and the throughput of the filtration
process. A suitable electric field utilized to assist migration of the pectin molecules away from the
membrane surface, reducing gel layer resistance and consequent increase in productivity of the filtration
process. The removal of pectin by the present process increases the shelf life of the clarified fruit juice and
thus having wide application in allied industries.

to fall from the upper region of the drum (8) to its bottom where the juice sacs depart from the drum (8) via
perforations in the circumferential surface (10) of the drum (8), while the remaining parts of the fruit (1) are
discharged out from the short side (12) of the drum (8). Figs. 1 & 2
48. Granted Patent for Drinking
Straw in India
Invention titled “FLEXIBLE DRINKING STRAW” was granted a patent by the Indian Patent Office (IPO) to
FOTOPOULOS, G. ANASTASIOS on 11/07/2008. The patent application was filed on 21/11/2001 bearing
patent application number IN/PCT/2001/01074/DEL before the Indian Patent Office.
Field of invention identified by the patent examiner relates to field of FI09) GENERAL ENGINEERING.
The identified IPC for the invention is A47G-21/18.
49. FLEXIBLE DRINKING STRAW
The invention relates to flexible straws with one (or more) corrugated zone consisting of re-entrant
overlapping folds, which are attached to the packaging of fruit juices, milks, coffees etc. and are
permanently bent until their use. The corrugated zone of the new straw consists of expanded re-entrant
overlapping folds that have not been deformed by force and contracted re-entrant overlapping folds
interspersed among the expanded ones so that not many consecutive expanded folds 2, 5 exist without
interference of one 3 or more 4 contracted ones.
Further, the first re-entrant overlapping folds 1 are contracted. The advantage of the present invention is
that it increases the effective length of the straw and attains complete straightening up and functionality of
it without a significant increase in the production cost and without major changes in the current production
line.
50. Granted Patents
for Herbal
Vitamin
Beverage
Category in India
Herbal vitamin invention titled “A PROCESS
FOR THE PREPARATION OF A HERBAL
VITAMIN BEVERAGE” was granted a patent
by the Indian Patent Office (IPO) to THE
ADDITIONAL DIRECTOR (IPR) on
27/03/2009. The patent application was filed
on 24/04/2001 bearing patent application
number 516/DEL/2001 before the Indian
Patent Office.
Field of invention identified by the patent
examiner relates to field of (FI08) FOOD.
The identified IPC for the invention is
A23L-2/02.
51. A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF A HERBAL VITAMIN BEVERAGE
This invention relates to a process for the preparation of herbal vitamin beverage based on the fruits of
herb Hippophae spp (Seabuckthorn) which comprises in the step of preparing sugar solution by mixing
sugar and water in the ratio of 1:1.75 to 2.5 wherein the said sugar solution contains 10-30 wt % of
fructose and 70-90wt% of cane sugar, mixing juice of Seabuckthorn and sugar solution in the ratio of 1:1,
heating the mixture at 32° to 52°C to prevent the loss of natural vitamins, colours or flavour
homogenization, filtration and adding preservative selected from Potassium Metabisulphite, Sodium
Benzoate, preferably Potassium Metabisulphite.
52. Granted
Patent for
Juicer in
India
Juicer based invention titled “JUICER HAVING
TWO CUTTERS” was granted a patent by the
Indian Patent Office (IPO) to 1.TSENG,
RONG-YUAN 2. LING, KUO- on 25/04/2008. The
patent application was filed on 01/02/2001 bearing
patent application number 124/DEL/2001 before the
Indian Patent Office.
Field of invention identified by the patent examiner
relates to field of (FI08) FOOD. The identified IPC
for the invention is A23N-1/02.
53. JUICER HAVING TWO CUTTERS
A juicer having a stationary cutter and a rotary cutter is provided to fully grind food fed into the juicer. The
rotary cutter is mounted in a strainer basket and fixed onto a main shaft of an operating motor of the juicer
so as to rotate along with the main shaft when the motor is started. The stationary cutter is fixedly
connected to a lower end of a feed tube downward extended from a top cover of the juicer to closely
locate above and face against the rotary cutter. The stationary and the rotary cutters are provided on
lower and upper surfaces, respectively, with a plurality of cutter blades at an inner area and a grinding
zone around an outer peripheral area. Any food fed into the juicer is first ground between the two cutters
by the cutter blades and any partially ground food is then centrifugally moved to the peripheral grinding
zones for further grinding. The juicer may be used to grind fruits and vegetables to produce as much juice
as possible or to produce food paste, or be used to grind dried food to produce powder.
