A public-private partnership between USAID,
DuPont and the government of Ethiopia,
exceeded its goal by 150 percent to boost
maize productivity among smallholder
farmers and increase food production for
Ethiopian communities.

21. Conclusion
The shift to sustainable development is an opportunity for urban and local
governments to leapfrog traditional development trajectories to more
inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and economically successful
development pathways.
