He has led the implementation of new procurement strategies and processes that delivered significant cost savings for both General Electric and Angel Trains Limited. Procurement and Supplier Relationship Management: Led the creation of two new
procurement functions, developing private and public sector procurement strategy
and processes and building teams that have delivered significant commercial benefit
to both General Electric and Angel Trains Limited:
Led the introduction of the BS11000 standard for collaboration thus
improving the way that major components are delivered to Angel Trains
Implemented inventory management systems and processes for GE
Used Just in time techniques to greatly improve cycle time and reduce stock
levels for a large fast moving manufacturing facility in General Electric.
Delivered several Six Sigma projects resulting in significant savings to GE
Gained RISAS accreditation for Procurement at Angel Trains
Supplier Development: Worked collaboratively with several key component and
train refurbishment suppliers to help them enter new markets and to grow their
businesses whilst gaining commercial benefit for General Electric and Angel Trains:
Developed a leading UK rail supplier to deliver major train refurbishment
works which ultimately lead to the supplier increasing business turnover four
times over and saving Angel Trains £18m
Developed local suppliers in the UK to deliver engineered plastic component
products globally including Eastern Europe and China, thus improving
product quality and reducing waste
Global Sourcing: Led several global sourcing initiatives including:
As the global category manager for Rare Earth Metals led the world’s first e-
auction saving over 25% ($2m) on raw material costs
Led the outsourcing of electrical products from a manufacturing facility in
Porto Rica to Shenzhen China, saving over $5m
Developed a new railway wagon business selecting strategic partners in
Eastern Europe that led to the procurement and subsequent leasing of over
£400m of railway wagons
Bid Support and Management: Commercial support to a large corporate in the
transport and defence sectors. Supporting the bid team to win a large tender for on-
board railway systems. Providing commercial strategy and leadership, stakeholder
analysis and management. Working with the team to benchmark their system
against competitors’ products.
Market Analysis and Strategy Development: Worked with a large US corporate
(globally $3bn+) to develop their business, sales, procurement and supply chain
2. strategy for a division in the UK that turns over £350m p.a. Analysing the wider
rolling stock market and looking for new market and sales opportunities. Working
with their senior team to determine what needs to be put in place to fulfil these
opportunities.
Product Management: Led the introduction of a Product Management function at
Angel Trains from initial concept, strategy development and the implementation of
new processes:
Developed the marketing plan for key Angel Trains fleets, instigating new
interior designs and other customer focussed improvements for fleets that
contribute £160m in revenue per annum
Managed the product marketing budget of £1.5m annually
Systems Implementation: Procured and led the implementation of a new suite of IT
systems (including Oracle ERP) delivering major business transformation:
Delivered new Sourcing systems and P2P process
Delivered this £5m project on time and to budget
Transformed the way that data is used in the Angel Trains Business
Business Improvement: Led the successful implementation of 11 major
improvement initiatives, including:
Business strategy development and cascade through and down the business
Improved customer contract management developing new offerings to new
and existing customers
Implemented a business intelligence framework and systemto revolutionise
the way that data was presented to the business
ETCS: Commercial leadership of the European Train Control System implementation
interacting with customers and suppliers:
Led procurement strategy development and improved relationships with the
supply chain, which delivered a significant price reduction during the tender
process
Led negotiations with customers and suppliers to contract for the fitment of
the first ETCS systemto a UK high speed train
Training and Mentoring:
Delivered a companywide training programme in 15 key commercial skill
areas, including relationship management, finance, negotiation and business
improvement
I Have worked with several individuals to help them see new possibilities and
develop opportunities for themselves, especially as part of the Women in Rail
and CIPS Fellows of the Future programme
International Experience: Have worked across Europe, The Americas and Asia on
several successful procurement and business projects for both General Electric and
Angel Trains. Spent 18 months in the USA on an international assignment as a
strategic sourcing manager.
