To Whom It May Concern;
It is my pleasure to recommend Stephanie Shun as a special education teacher at your
school. I first met Stephanie when I started at St. MichaelAlbertville High School in the middle
of the year as their newest EBD teacher and she was my teaching assistant. Stephanie was an
amazing coworker during our time together and with the stress of starting a new school in the
middle of the year, she truly stepped up to teach me the insandouts of special education at
STMA. Stephanie not only helped me transition, but during our time together she showed me
what a true advocate for students with special needs does. There have been countless times
that I have heard Stephanie say “this is why I love special education” and her passion and
dedication to the field will no doubt take her far in her career.
While working with Stephanie at STMA, there were many times where I would lean on her for
advice in special education; she always had many different suggestions and ideas as to how to
handle certain situations. I admired how she always had positive interactions during behavioral
interventions with students as well as interactions with teachers. Stephanie was easily one of
our students’ favorite teaching assistants, not only because she had a way of helping students
truly understand what they were learning, but because students could tell she truly cared about
them.
I also had the pleasure of working with Stephanie as her coteacher during special education
Extended School Year (ESY). We both taught selfcontained ASD students, some with very
severe behaviors. Stephanie had a very challenging group of students, but without reservation,
she took the challenge headon and students greatly benefited from having her as their teacher.
Stephanie took charge and handled many difficult aspects during ESY (behavioral redirections,
interventions, routines, and sensory tasks) all with ease. I truly got to see Stephanie in her
element; it was as if I was working with a veteran teacher.
I believe that with not only her extensive knowledge in the field, but her true passion for working
with students with special needs, she will no doubt be an asset to your school. If you have
further questions with regard to her background or qualifications please do not hesitate to
contact me.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Peterson
