Arbeitsgruppe „Olympische
Spiele und Sports for Peace“

2. • Einleitung
• Im Rahmen der Olympischen
Spiele der Neuzeit schlug der
französische Pädagoge und
Sportler Pierre de Coubertin vor,
Kunst und Kultur in das Programm
der Olympischen Spiele
einzubauen. Daher haben wir uns
an den Projekttagen alle auch mit
Kunst und Kultur aus unserer
Gegend beschäftigt.
• Hier wollen wir euch jetzt die
Themen vorstellen, an denen wir
mit den Schulen aus Spanien und
England gemeinsam arbeiten und
für die jede Schule nächstes Jahr
einen Baustein für das
gemeinsame Ziel, unsere Mini-
Olymp.Spiele in Oxford, liefert.
• Introduction
• The French educator and
sportsman Pierre de Coubertin
suggested to include arts and
crafts in the programme for the
Modern Olympic Games. That´s
why during our project days we
worked on items like fairy tales,
pottery etc, all typical for our area.
(display in different rooms.)
• Now we present some of the
topics which are relevant for the
understanding and the preparation
of our joint Mini Olympic games
next year in Oxford.

3. • Olympische Idee
• Die Olympischen Spiele sind
mit das älteste und wohl
bedeutendste Sportfest der
Welt: sie sollen bereits 4.000
Jahre alt sein.
• Wurden die antiken
Olympischen Spiele
abgehalten, um die "Götter zu
erfreuen", so spielt heute unter
anderem der Wettkampf
zwischen den Nationen eine
große Rolle, und, sie sollen
heutzutage der
Völkerverständigung dienen,
das ist der wichtigste Punkt für
uns.
• Olympic Idea
• The Olympic Games probably
are the oldest (4,000 years)
and most important sports
festivities of the world.
• In the antiques they were to
delight the gods, nowadays
they are rather for
competitions between the
nations
• and to improve the
international understanding.
This is our credo for the
project.

4. • Sport für den Frieden
• Schon in der Antike gab
es während der Spiele
keine Kriege.
• Diesen Gedanken griff
der Franzose Pierre de
Coubertin wieder auf, als
er die Wiedereinführung
der Olympischen Spiele
anregte. Er wollte als
Lehrer einen sportlichen,
friedlichen Wettstreit der
Nationen.
• Dieser Gedanke ist auch
das Leitziel unseres
Projekts.
• Sports for Peace
• In the antiques there
were no fights and wars
during the Olympic
Games.
• Coubertin, a French
educator and sportsman,
adopted this idea when
he revived the Olympic
Games in 1896. As a
teacher, he did not want
wars, he wanted a
peaceful sportive
conquest of different
nations.
• This idea is our project´s
guideline.too.

5. • Olympische Botschaft
• “Dabei sein ist alles”
• Teilnahme an den Olympischen
Spielen ist das, was für die meisten
Wettkämpfer zählt:
• die Ehre, ihr Land zu vertreten,
während der Eröffnungsfeier hinter
ihrer Flagge in das Stadion
einzuziehen, sich im Kreis der
sportlichen Elite zu bewegen, ihr
Bestes geben zu können. Das alles
macht den Geist der Olympischen
Spiele aus!
• Pierre de Coubertin sagte es schon zu
Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts:
• „[…] Das Wichtigste an den
Olympischen Spielen ist nicht das
Siegen, sondern das Teilnehmen. […]
Das Wichtigste im Leben ist nicht der
Triumph, sondern der Kampf. Es ist
nicht wesentlich, gesiegt, sondern gut
gekämpft zu haben.“

• The Olympic Creed
• Being part of the Games is the
most important thing for all
athletes: the honour to
represent their country, to walk
behind their country´s flag during
the opening ceremony, the chance
of being among mutual friends and
to give their best.
"The most important
thing in the Olympic Games is not
to win but to take part, just as the
most important thing in life is not
the triumph, but the struggle. The
essential thing is not to have
conquered, but to have fought
well."

6. • Die Olympische Flagge
entstand 1913, entworfen von
Coubertin. Die fünf Ringe auf
ihr stellen die fünf Kontinente
dar. Die Verbundenheit
zwischen den Kontinenten,
Völkern und Menschen soll in
der Flagge zum Ausdruck
gebracht werden, deshalb sind
die Ringe ineinander
verschlungen. Zu der Wahl der
Farben sagte Coubertin: "…
ihre Farben entsprechen
denen sämtlicher
Nationalflaggen der heutigen
Welt." Erstmals wurde die
Flagge 1920 bei den Spielen in
Antwerpen (Belgien)
verwendet.
• Coubertin designed the flag of
the Olympics in 1913-1914.
The flag was first used in
the 1920 Olympic Games in
Antwerp, Belgium. It has five
interlocking rings (blue, yellow,
black, green, and red) on a
white ground. The rings
represent the five parts of the
world that were joined together
in the Olympic movement:
Africa, the Americas, Asia,
Australia and Europe.
The colours of the rings are in
the flags of any nation of the
world.

7. • Der Olympische Eid,
• der auf Pierre de
Coubertin zurückgeht,
wird seit 1920 bei der
Eröffnungsfeier der
Olympischen Spiele von
einem aktiven Sportler
des gastgebenden
Landes gesprochen. Es
ist ein Versprechen, den
"Fair-Play"-Gedanken zu
beachten.
• Athlete's Oath
• One athlete from the host
country takes the oath at
the Opening Ceremony
on behalf of all athletes.
He holds a corner of the
Olympic Flag and
promises to play fairly
and obey all of the
Olympic rules. The oath
was written by Baron de
Coubertin, and became a
part of our Modern
Olympic Games in 1920.
Olympic officials also
have to take the oath.

8. • Bei den antiken Wettspielen
durfte der Sieger des Wettlaufs
das Feuer vor dem
Zeustempel entfachen.
• Dies galt als besondere Ehre
und er wurde als Idol gefeiert.
• Die Entzündung des
Olympischen Feuers in
Kombination mit der großen
Eröffnungsfeier wurde 1936
das erste Mal in dem
prunkvollen Stil, wie wir ihn
heute kennen, durchgeführt:
zu den Sommerspielen in
Berlin, die von der damaligen
Regierung als riesige
Propagandatrommel genutzt
wurde.
• The tradition of lighting an
Olympic Flame comes from
the Ancient Olympic Games,
when a sacred flame was lit
from the sun’s rays at Olympia,
and stayed lit until the Games
were completed. This flame
was first introduced into our
Modern Olympics in 1928.
Since then, the flame has
come to symbolize "the light of
spirit, knowledge, and life."

9. • Olympische(r) Fackel(lauf)
• Ursprünglich wurde die Fackel
in Olympia in Griechenland
entzündet und in einem
Staffellauf zu der Olympia-
Stadt getragen. Der letzte
Läufer trägt die Fackel
während der Eröffnungsfeier in
das Stadium und zündet damit
das Olympische Feuer an,
welches dann bis zur
Schlussfeier der Spiele brennt.
• Der Fackellauf symbolisiert
das Weitergeben olympischer
Traditionen von einer
Generation zur nächsten.
• Diese Tradition wurde
ebenfalls 1936 in Berlin wieder
aufgegriffen.

the Ancient Olympics and was
revived at the 1936 Berlin
Games. Originally, the torch
was lit at Olympia in Greece
and then carried by relay to the
host-city of the games. The
last runner carries the torch
into the Olympic Stadium
during the Opening Ceremony.
The flame is then lit from the
torch and will remain lit until it
is extinguished during the
Closing Ceremony. The Torch
Relay symbolizes the passing
of Olympic traditions from one
generation to the next!
