2. ELECTRICAL GRID
An electrical grid is an
interconnected network for
delivering electricity from
suppliers to consumers. It
consists of generating
stations that produce
electrical power, high-
voltage transmission lines
that carry power from
distant sources to demand
centers, and distribution
lines that connect individual
customers
5. INSTALLED POWER CAPACITY IN
INDIA
SOURCE : CURRENT
INSTALLED
BASE:
Thermal power 110.396 GW
Hydro power 39,291.40 MW
Nuclear power 4.8 GW
Solar power 10MW
Wind power 11,807MW
Biomass power 866MW
Geothermal power 203.0MW
Tidal wave energy 8,000 MW
6. Power grid in India
The country is geographically
divided in five regions -
Northern, Eastern, Western,
North Eastern and Southern.
The first four out these five
regional grids are operating in a
synchronous mode .
The Southern Region is
interconnected with the rest of
India grid through asynchronous
links.
7. Problem in present grid
• Rising Greenhouse Gas Emissions (CO2)
• Power Outages
• Security Threats
• Lake of Innovative Technology
8. Introduction to Smart Grid:-
• In definition, Smart Grid is a form of electricity network
utilizing digital technology.
• It connects between suppliers, distributors and
consumers.
• It delivers electricity from suppliers to consumers using
two-way digital communications to control appliances
at consumers homes; which in deed will saving the
energy, reduce costs and increase reliability.
• A key feature of the smart grid is automation
technology that lets the utility adjust and control each
individual device or millions of devices from a central
location.
10. FEATURES OF THE SMART
GRID:-
• Reliability
• Flexibility in Topology
• Efficiency
• Platform for advanced services
• Increase Power Quality
• Smart control of Energy Demand
13. Smart Grid Benefits
• Economic Development
o New Jobs
o Innovation
o Lower Cost
• Customer Satisfaction
o Higher Customer Satisfaction
o Improved Reliability
o Shorter Outages
o Customer Energy/Cost Savings
o Highest Security
o Timely renewables
o Reduce peak demand
o Shift usage to off-peak hours
o Actively manage electrical vehicle charging
16. CONCLUSION
• It’s smarter for you:-The more you know about
your electricity consumption, the more control
you have over your usage and your bills .
• It’s smarter for planet:-The technology will
provide daily estimation of green house gases
associated with electrical usage.
• At the same time the technology will improve and
provide how renewable energy sources are
integrated with electrical grid .
17. • It’s smarter for us all:-Smart meters and
smart grid can make our electricity supply
more reliable, with fewer and shorter outages.
• We need to start planning for the future today,
by building smarter grid and giving people
smarter ways to control their energy
consumption .
