• We look for innovative ideas that address a demand or significant problem in the energy
industry and have the potential to change the game. Ideas can range from new oil exploration
techniques to improved production tools, or even new forms of energy.

Western U.S. to participate in the Department of Energy’s first ever, business plan competition
for clean energy.

Ecomagination Challenge China

• Grant Type: Start-ups
• Amount: $50,000
• Geographic Focus: China

• Ecomagination Challenge in China will focus on gas-powered energy applications in its initial
phase, which runs through next April.

• Winners will be entitled to cash awards, opportunities to work at GE's R&D facilities in China
and possible equity investments in their ventures.

technology sectors afterwards.

• A panel of high profile judges will be looking for an original idea that contributes towards
reducing direct CO2 emissions from London's built environment. The winning ideas will receive
prize money of up to £20,000 to use to develop the project.

Better Buildings Case Competition

• Grant Type: Priza / Award
• Geographic Focus: USA

• The DOE is engaging university students to contribute innovative ideas and approaches to
reduce these barriers.

• As part of its support for the Better Buildings Challenge, the DOE is holding a student case
competition. Students in university energy clubs will tackle cases that focus on a number of the
most common, most stubborn barriers to energy efficiency in both the private sector and in
state and local settings.


Intelligent Energy Europe
European Citizens Climate Cup

• Amount: €20,000 Platinum Award
• Geographic Focus: Europe
• Deadline: 30th April 2012

• ECCC addresses European private householders, families and singles, and is based on the
energy consumption of their houses.

• Participants have one year to implement in their own houses strategies and measures to reduce
their overall energy consumption – the greater the reduction the bigger their chance of winning
