The Urban influx in mega cities like Lahore has caused numerous issues including that of intercity and intra city transport. As Lahore is an economic and industrial hub, a large number of people come to the city in search of jobs and other economic purposes. This makes it very significant for the city to have an efficient inter-city transport network and transport hubs that make inter-city travel convenient. Lahore has three major bus stands including:
1. Lahore Laari adda (Badami Bagh), near Minar-e-Pakistan
2. Niazi adda (Bund Road)
3. Thokar Niaz Baig
As the addresses show, these bus terminals lie on the northern edge of the city in very chaotic and crowded areas and cause traffic congestion, noise and pollution. The locations of the bus terminals make it very difficult for the people living on the far edge of the city where a large number of people from other cities, especially from southern Punjab live and work in the industrial zones along the Hadyara drain (aka Rohi Nullah) and Quaid-e-Azam industrial estate. The area is also among the fastest developing zones of the city with numerous towns and residential societies being planned and developed and a large number of the new residents have roots in other smaller cities and rural areas and are often required to travel to and from multiple cities of the country. The target area with need of a new bus terminal is at the conflux of Ferozpur Road, Lahore Ring Road and Hadyara drain
