3. HISTORY
Company was founded in 1806 by William
Colgate in New York.
After founder's death, it was known as
Colgate & Company.
Toothpaste was first marketed in 1873
Colgate moved from original location to
Jersey City, New Jersey in 1910.
In1928, Colgate and Palmolive-Peet merge,
forming Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Company.
Name changed to Colgate-Palmolive
Company.
4. Palmolive dishwashing liquid was introduced in
1966.
Colgate toothpaste was reformulated with
fluoride; Ultra Brite which was introduced for the
first time.
In 1992 the Mennen Company was acquired &
Colgate toothpaste is introduced overseas.
Total toothpaste is launched in the United States
in 1997; Colgate takes lead in domestic
toothpaste market.
In 2004 company acquires European oral care
firm GABA; & major restructuring was launched.
