joining groups on Facebook or LinkedIn. You
can also discover industry-specific on
websites like Eventbrite or Meetup.
Build a persona by researching specific or
potential attendees and determine how you
can address their needs. Practice speaking to
this persona.
Prepare business cards, take plenty, and put
them in an easy-to-carry container. Do not
rely on their ability to remember your name.
Dress appropriately. Overdressing is better
than underdressing but neither is ideal. Try
to get your outfit right. Think business casual
but comfortable.
Relax. If you prepared properly you will do
great. If you didn’t prepare properly, you will
learn a valuable lesson and get it right next

Shake plenty of hands. Not shaking hands is
weird. People will expect you to extend your

but Facebook is appropriate depending on
