3. The story so far.. About Denplan Our Green Team We needed to change The hard work ! How did we make it work Was it a success ?
4. About Denplan Established since 1986 Based in Victoria Road, Winchester Largest private employer in Winchester with 350 staff Provide payment plans for Dental treatment 6500 member dentists across the UK, with approx 1.8 million patients

Our Green Team Since 2006, we had a team of ‘Greenies’ from around the business, meeting quarterly Had a 5 year action plan to reduce; Energy/Water use/Paper use Increase recycling rates Focused on ‘quick wins’ It was successful, ‘Commended’ in the Hants & IOW Sustainable Business Awards 2008 Was under resourced, no budget and lacked direction

We needed to change Existing Green Team had implemented all the quick wins Our MD was keen for us to take the next step Our Corporate customers were asking Green questions Parent company had just achieved ISO14001 Employees telling us to do more through internal surveys Local community telling us to do more An opportunity to improve processes and reduce costs Next stop….ISO14001 accreditation
7. The hard work ! Setting up the system that stands up to the ISO14001 standard Creating an Environmental policy that meets the criteria of the standard and fits our business Identifying our significant Environmental impacts Target /Objectives Measuring /Monitoring Auditing Continuous improvement
8. How did we make it work ? Top management were enthusiastic and wanted to proceed We were clear with our communication from the start Presented our starting position to the business through team meetings Why we were doing this What were the benefits to the business How can you help, encouraged feedback & ideas ? Poster campaign & intranet site set up with regular updates Appointed Green Champions around the business who promoted the targets and objectives we set within their own areas
9. Was it a success ? Waste - Over 70% of all waste recycled Recycling stations on all floors, including cardboard/batteries Treehuggers on all desks Energy use - is still up due to increase in IT Installed sensor lighting and energy efficient bulbs Business Travel – implemented Co2 cap of 159mg for all new company vehicles More management information through measuring & monitoring
