Welcome Back
The mission of Vine is to help people find their way to ministry in their area. Vine serves
kids, youth, young adults, and adults as they grow in faith for a lifetime. Currently, Vine is a
partnership of four ELCA congregations:
Prince of Peace in Burnsville
Shepherd of the Lake in Prior Lake
Easter Lutheran in Eagan
Shepherd of the Valley in Apple Valley
This catalog features ministry happening May through August. We hope that this edition will
help you find your way to new rhythms and practices you can use at home, the cabin, or
wherever God leads you! These opportunities have been curated for the benefit of the faith
formation of anyone wishing to take the next step in their faith.
So, whether you are from these congregations, another local church, or just someone who
wants to grow–this is for you. Use the contact information at the front of this catalog and
online with each listing to find your way.
Vine will continue to grow even after the print catalog is launched, so look for links to our
digital catalog and please follow us on Facebook and Instagram by searching
@vinefindyourway. Grow with us!

Racial Truth and Justice Book Discussion: My Grandmother's Hands
Thursday, May 18 from 6:30 – 8:30pm
Hybrid | Shepherd of the Valley | No Cost | Register at sotv.org/events
The body is where our instincts reside and where we fight, flee, or freeze,
and it endures the trauma inflicted by the ills that plague society. Resmaa
Menakem argues this destruction will continue until Americans learn to heal
the generational anguish of white supremacy, which is deeply embedded in
all our bodies. Our collective agony doesn't just affect African Americans.
White Americans suffer their own secondary trauma as well. So do blue
Americans—our police. This book is a call to action for all of us to recognize that racism is not only
about the head, but about the body, and introduces an alternative view of what we can do to grow
beyond our entrenched racialized divide.

The Love, Grief, and Survival Strategies of a Caregiver
Saturday, May 20 from 9-11am
In Person | Shepherd of the Valley | $10, includes continental breakfast
Register at sotv.org/events
Whether you are a past, current, or future caregiver, this talk is for you! The
duties and responsibilities of a caregiver are significant. They require physical
strength and emotional resilience. One's personal needs are subjugated for the
needs of another. It is not easy. How does the caregiver cope? What human
qualities are necessary for the caregiver to successfully manage his or her own
life? Grief can follow us along the way.
David McNally will share his journey as a caregiver for his wife, Cheryl, who has Alzheimer's. He will
discuss how he navigates grief and loss, while keeping himself physically, emotionally, and spiritually
healthy. David is a speaker, author, personal development leader, and cancer survivor.

Maturing in God’s Presence
God promises us abundant life
here and now. Yet the pace of our
lives often leaves us without the
joy, contentment, and peace we’re
meant to have as followers of Christ.
Dedicate your summer to reconnect
with God through this hands-on
resource. These journal prompts
will take you on a 4-month journey
through ten essential Christian
practices. Learn the key features of
each practice, including how it can
help you grow spiritually. Try each
practice in a suggested weekly rhythm
and then design your own monthly
agenda for spending time with God.
Tessa Pinkstaff facilitates courses,
workshops, and retreats on spiritual
practices. Her ministry focuses on
developing an intimate relationship
with God through disciplines like
prayer, simplicity, and silence and
solitude. Tessa is the co-author
of the forthcoming book Leading
Faithful Innovation: Following God
in a Hopeful Future (available from
Fortress Press in April 2023). She will
finish her Master of Arts in
Ministry degree at Bethel
Seminary in May 2023.

Thursday meetings at SOTV.
Gratitude propelled Jesus’ ministry,
relationships, and His very being. Gratitude for
life. Gratitude for purpose. Gratitude for hope in
dark moments like those in the upper room.
Every time I lead communion in my church,
I hang on these words of gratitude that Jesus’
shares with his disciples. They remind me that
in the middle of everything, God is up to good.
And that goodness is calling us forward into a
world that looks more like heaven.
That has certainly been true since we launched
Vine in August of 2022. It has not been easy. It
is a logistical mountain to climb. Church staff
are fluid and living into their call in other ways.
Against the backdrop of the white noise of our
culture, our movement is a bit of a whisper.
Yet, the details reflect mountains of ministry.
The fluidity signals the dynamic nature of the
church. That whisper comes from a still small
voice. So, I give thanks.
I give thanks for the Vine leadership team,
Dawn Ridgway and Karolina Stark.
I give thanks for the pastors and church staff of
Easter Lutheran, Prince of Peace, Shepherd of
the Valley, and Shepherd of the Lake.
I give thanks for our synod and denomination
for accelerating innovative ideas.
I give thanks for the Holy Spirit that empowers,
enlivens, and equips this ministry every day.

Our collective agony doesn't just affect African Americans. White Americans suffer their own secondary trauma as well. So do blue Americans—our police. • 19. Gratitude propelled Jesus’ ministry, relationships, and His very being. Gratitude for life. Gratitude for purpose. Gratitude for hope in dark moments like those in the upper room. Every time I lead communion in my church, I hang on these words of gratitude that Jesus’ shares with his disciples. They remind me that in the middle of everything, God is up to good. And that goodness is calling us forward into a world that looks more like heaven. That has certainly been true since we launched Vine in August of 2022. It has not been easy. It is a logistical mountain to climb. Church staff are fluid and living into their call in other ways. Against the backdrop of the white noise of our culture, our movement is a bit of a whisper. Yet, the details reflect mountains of ministry. The fluidity signals the dynamic nature of the church. That whisper comes from a still small voice. So, I give thanks. I give thanks for the Vine leadership team, Dawn Ridgway and Karolina Stark. I give thanks for the pastors and church staff of Easter Lutheran, Prince of Peace, Shepherd of the Valley, and Shepherd of the Lake. I give thanks for our synod and denomination for accelerating innovative ideas. I give thanks for the Holy Spirit that empowers, enlivens, and equips this ministry every day.
