A inspection of the prophecy of the wise and foolish virgins from the bible's perspective. Prophecy is a light and the sanctuary is the key that unlocks the mystery, Through the use of parallelism, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, some deep truths can be revealed from the scriptures.

The wise and foolish virgins
1. The Wise and Foolish Virgins: A Scriptural Look at Matthew 25
Daniel 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do
wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
With the above text of Daniel in mind let us read:
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps,
and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were
foolish.
They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took
oil in their vessels with their lamps.
While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there
was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the
wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying,
Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and
buy for yourselves.
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in
with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other
virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto
you, I know you not. (Matthew 25:1-12 KJV)
It is of course important to note a couple things from scripture before we go forward in relation
to the principles we are going to discuss.
The lamp – “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105
The Oil – “Zechariah 4:1-6 reveal that the oil is the Holy Spirit”
The light – “Prophecy is a light (especially when there is gross darkness)” 2 Peter 1:19
The bible gives a detailed rundown of those who God considers wise.
Exodus 28:3 And thou shalt speak unto all [that are] wise hearted, whom I have filled with
the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments to consecrate him, that he may
minister unto me in the priest's office.
1 Kings 3:12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and
an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee
shall any arise like unto thee. (Note that God is the one that gives wisdom here. The Spirit of
wisdom; this means wisdom is a gift of the Spirit. This is clearly revealed in 1 Corinthians 12:8.)
Deuteronomy 4:6 Keeptherefore and do [them]; for this [is] your wisdom and your
understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say,
Surely this great nation [is] a wise and understanding people.
2. Psalms 19:7 The law of the LORD [is] perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the
LORD [is] sure, making wise the simple. (The observance of the of the law of God reveals
wisdom another reference that could be added to this is Psalm 119:97-100 which reveals that
wisdom normally moves men to be obedient to God)
Proverbs 3:35 The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools. (Of
course the ultimate end of those who are wise is that glory will be their calling. More on the wise
and why they inherit glory later)
Proverbs 20:1 Wine [is] a mocker, strong drink [is] raging: and whosoever is deceived
thereby is not wise. (If you are not wise you are a fool. Note carefully how Solomon contrast
wisdom with foolishness often times in the book of proverbs. It is vital to note that it is the wine
that deceives the foolish.)
Revelation 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that
great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
Revelation 17:2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the
inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. (All those
who would have drunk of this wine would have been deceived and thus would have become
drunk and hence would be foolish)
Notice now the link between “the fear of the LORD” and wisdom:
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom
Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to
depart from evil is understanding.
Of course it then means we need to understand what it means to have “the fear of the Lord”
which is to “fear God”. Here we make use of Parallelism to compare to passages:
Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keephis
commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with
the remnant of her seed, which keepthe commandments of God, and have the testimony of
Jesus Christ.
We will take out a specific phrase out of each verse for the purpose of comparison.
“keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ”
“Fear God, and keephis commandments” (Note carefully here that the fear of God and the
testimony of Jesus is found to be common. A look at Psalm 111:10 reveals that the fear of God is
the theory while the practical application is seen in keeping the commandments)
The testimony of Jesus is of deep interest. Now remember that we are still seeking to get an
understanding of Matthew 25:1-12; the wise are seen to have the Testimony of Jesus which
according to Revelation 19:10 is referred to as the Spirit of prophecy and when we look closely
3. at Revelation 22:9 we recognize then that those who “have the testimony of Jesus” are also
referred to as “the prophets”. This then means that in order to be wise one must understand the
prophecies.
Remember as well the fact that the wise virgins have lamps and oil and when their lamps are
trimmed they have light. Recall that according to 2 Peter 1:19 the light is prophecy and
according to Zechariah 4:1-6 the oil represents the Holy Spirit. The lamp here refers to the word
of God. It then means that when a person who has knowledge of the word of God is moved by
the Holy Spirit then prophetic light is shed on the path.
John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they
which testify of me. (Testify is defined as “To bear witness to; to support the truth of by
testimony; to affirm or declare solemny,” by the Webster’s dictionary of 1913)
Here we find that scriptures are indelibly linked with the “Testimony of Jesus” this should show
that prophecy and scriptures are also inseparable. Note as well the following texts:
2 Peter 1:20-21 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private
interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of
God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Romans 16:26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according
to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience
of faith:
So here we have the fact that the scriptures were written by prophets and this means then that
only prophets can understand scripture. Why? 1 Corinthians 14:32 And the spirits of the
prophets are subject to the prophets. This means that those who desire to understand the
prophecies must be led by “the Spirit of prophecy”; which we have found to clearly be the Holy
Spirit.
When Jesus met His disciples for the first time one of the things that He did was:
John 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive
ye the Holy Ghost: (Bear in mind that the disciples did not understand the prophecies up to this
point; they had a knowledge of the word [had the lamp] but they did not have prophetic
understanding [did not have the light].)
Later on Jesus was able to:
And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with
you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, andin the
prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they
might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it
behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: (Luke 24:44-46 KJV)
(Note carefully what is referred to as scripture; “Moses, prophets and psalms” all give a
testimony of all that Christ would and will do in the plan of redemption.)
4. Proverbs 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of
instruction are the way of life: (Whenever commandments and law are seen in the same verse it
is always vital to note what this law is referring to. The law here refers to the ceremonial law.)
Luke 11:52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye
entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.
What caused the disciples not to understand the work of Christ? They did not realize that “the
lamb of God” had to be slain in order to take away the sin of the world. How would they have
understood this truth? By study the message of the Saviour in the sanctuary. The ceremonial law
is the key that allows proper prophetic interpretation to come out.
This of course means that the wise needed the message of the sanctuary in order to go in:
Revelation 3:7-8 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he
that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man
shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; I know thy works: behold, I have set before
thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my
word, and hast not denied my name.
Note the importance of the message of sanctuary when Paul outlines the principles in Hebrews.
Through the ceremonial law Christ’s disciples would have recognized that Jesus would have died
on the day of the Passover; rested in the tomb on the day of unleavened bread; then raise from
the dead on the day of wave sheaves to present the sacrifice to the Father. Interestingly the
disciples had the time right but had the event wrong because they had not been taught the
sanctuary.
This means that in order “to understand” the scripture we need to have the Holy Spirit and a
correct understanding of the sanctuary.
Proverbs 14:8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is
deceit.
Psalms 77:13 Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?
Psalms 73:17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.
So true understanding comes along with the message of the sanctuary. Prophetic time is
interpreted through the word and the Holy Spirit but the prophetic event is found by
understanding the principles of the sanctuary.
So the door reveals the kingdom of God; the prophetic time. The event is understood when the
event is understood by the message of the sanctuary. With this in mind it means that according to
Adventist thinking the midnight cry has already been made.
The wedding feast is already going on as the call to go and meet the bride groom was made in
1844 and this revealed the time of the investigative judgement.
5. Matthew 22:11–12 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which
had not on a wedding garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither
not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
John 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord
doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have
made known unto you.
Here we have revealed that those who have made it into the wedding feast have enough
information to know exactly what ought to have been happening and also what kind of clothes
was needed for the feast.
Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he
hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of
righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth
herself with her jewels.
So those that entered the wedding feast would have had knowledge of the word and then through
inspiration would have been led to calculate prophetic time. At the door they would have been
led to the sanctuary which would have allowed them to understand the prophetic event and thus
would have determined what they ought to be doing based on the Sanctuary.
The foolish virgins as has been already explained had no prophetic light or understanding.
However both parties are seen carrying lamps and thus it is revealed that both parties had the
word. However it is vital for us to look at some things.
While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a
cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins
arose, and trimmed their lamps. (Matthew 25:5-7) (Important information is contained in this
verse. Notice that ALL SLUMBERED. Notice as well that the trimming of the lamps occurred
about the time of the midnight cry as well; this does mean that on both sides of the fence we
should see a lot of movement being made around the year 1844.)
The prophetic period of 2300 years began in 457BC (a date so intricately linked with the 70
week prophecy of Daniel 9 that the starting point has many infallible proofs) and thus was
initially calculated to end either in autumn 1843 or Spring of 1844. Having set out to meet the
saviour the virgins (wise and foolish) realized that the prophetic light was wrong.
Darkness is the absence of light:
Genesis 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the
evening and the morning were the first day.
1 Thessalonians 5:7 For they that sleepsleepin the night; and they that be drunken are
drunken in the night.
Notice that Paul reveals that two things occur in the night; (1) sleep and (2) drunkenness.
6. Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep:
for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
Isaiah 52:1 Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O
Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the
uncircumcised and the unclean.
The wise virgins simply went to sleep but the foolish virgins not only went to sleep but also
became drunk on the wine of Babylon. Both parties had no prophetic understanding of either the
time or the event; but soon the time issue was resolved by the wise virgins. When the time issue
was resolved then the midnight cry went out with power. However the foolish virgins, who by
this time had become drunk, wanted oil. All the virgins arose but only those who had been
seeking prophetic understanding before could withstand the tarrying time without getting drunk.
Matthew 25:8-9 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are
gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you:
but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
Everything should always be carefully noted in the scripture. The one who sells is:
Revelation 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me[the true witness] gold tried in the fire, that thou
mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy
nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
Isaiah 55:1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money;
come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
This means the wise virgins were actually referring the foolish virgins to the messages that had
given them this information. “the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.”
Psalm 19:7 (bear in mind that this is the same testimony that is known as the Spirit of prophecy.)
However the foolish virgins did not comprehend and went off to buy oil.
Matthew 25:10-12 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were
ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the
other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto
you, I know you not.
Diligent research has revealed that the latest date that has been ascribed to the removal of the
apocrypha from the King James Version (The English translation that most accurately
represents the Received Text aka Textus Receptus) is sometime in 1830. This would of course be
plenty time before 1844 when the virgins would have aroused and trimmed their lamps. 1844 is
also the same year that we find the manuscripts that form the basis of the “critical text” being
found in monasteries on Mount Sinai. Thus both parties are in fact found trimming their lamps
(the word) around the same time.
7. The ones who have used the received Text and parallelism as the method to understand prophecy
have arrived at the door and soon find out that the correct understanding of the sanctuary and
recognize that the Ten Commandments are binding and the Sabbath has not been changed. The
light from the sanctuary also revealed the time of investigation and that Christ had provided the
power to overcome sin.
Note the following quote from Early Writings:
I saw the Father rise from the throne, and in a flaming chariot go into the
holy of holies within the veil, and sit down. Then Jesus rose up from the
throne, and the most of those who were bowed down arose with Him. I did not
see one ray of light pass from Jesus to the careless multitude after He arose,
and they were left in perfect darkness. Those who arose when Jesus did, kept
their eyes fixed on Him as He left the throne and led them out a little way.
Then He raised His right arm, and we heard His lovely voice saying, "Wait
here; I am going to My Father to receive the kingdom; keep your garments
spotless, and in a little while I will return from the wedding and receive you to
Myself." Then a cloudy chariot, with wheels like flaming fire, surrounded by
angels, came to where Jesus was. He stepped into the chariot and was borne
to the holiest, where the Father sat. There I beheld Jesus, a great High
Priest, standing before the Father. On the hem of His garment was a bell and
a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate. Those who rose up with Jesus would
send up their faith to Him in the holiest, and pray, "My Father, give us Thy
Spirit." Then Jesus would breathe upon them the Holy Ghost. In that breath
was light, power, and much love, joy, and peace. {EW 55.1}
I turned to look at the company who were still bowed before the throne; they
did not know that Jesus had left it. Satan appeared to be by the throne,
trying to carry on the work of God. I saw them look up to the throne, and
pray, "Father, give us Thy Spirit." Satan would then breathe upon them an
unholy influence; in it there was light and much power, but no sweet love, joy,
and peace. Satan's object was to keep them deceived and to draw back and
deceive God's children. {EW 56.1}
Now this becomes a very interesting thing right here. The foolish had gone to buy; but who were
they going to buy from? Definitely not the bridegroom. Here we find that they ended up having
oil and light as they have found the door and are standing outside expecting to be allowed in.
8. Sister White reveals that “satan would breathe upon them” hence we find that just as Jesus
breathed upon His disciples and then gave them understanding of the scripture; satan now gives
the unholy influence of his spirit to those who have not followed into the marriage feast. “In it
there was light” this phrase is significant in the fact that we have seen that light refers to
prophecy or prophetic understanding. However we have seen that there is two Bibles, Two
Spirits and thus Two prophetic understandings. The false Bible (critical text) with the false spirit
combined gives the false prophetic interpretation of preterism and futurism (it is important to
note at this time that both these methods of interpretation were formulated by Jesuits).
The fact is that the methods of biblical interpretation that refuse to view the sanctuary on earth as
a smaller reproduction representing the sanctuary in heaven will always lead to error. Note again
one of the plans of satan:
Says the great deceiver: “We must watch those who are calling the attention
of the people to the Sabbath of Jehovah; they will lead many to see the
claims of the law of God; and the same light which reveals the true Sabbath,
reveals also the ministration of Christ in the heavenly sanctuary, and shows
that the last work for man’s salvation is now going forward. Hold the minds of
the people in darkness till that work is ended, and we shall secure the world
and the church also. {4SP 337.2}
So the light that brought the wise virgins to the door reveals the Sabbath that same light (method
of prophetic interpretation [parallelism as reflected in Isaiah 28:9-10]) reveals the closing work
of Christ in the heavenly sanctuary. This means that satan has been seeking to shut out the light
that leads to the Most Holy place of the heavenly sanctuary as this is the place where we are to
become “partakers of the divine nature” and the only place where we can be filled with “the
fullness of God”.
The foolish virgins arrive at the door thinking that the thousand years of peace is about to begin.
The key to note is that because of the false prophetic interpretation they would also be prepared
for the coming of the false Christ as mentioned in Matthew 24. This false Christ will also reveal
the need to keep God’s law (this will be the Commandments as promoted by the Catholic
Church) and keep the Sabbath (this will be the Sunday Sabbath). When Jesus arrives on the
scene the response as given in Matthew 25 is, “I know you not.”
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but
he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day,
Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils?
and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never
knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (Matthew 7:21-23)
9. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is
not in him. (1 John 2:4)
What about the man without a wedding garment? Well the fact that this man is referred to as
“friend” means that all necessary information was at access to this person. This means that the
man knew exactly how to prepare for the wedding "Wait here; I am going to My Father to
receive the kingdom; keep your garments spotless, and in a little while I will return from the
wedding and receive you to Myself." {EW 55.1}
Revelation 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they
which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in
the blood of the Lamb.
Revelation 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and
white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
In order for this man to have been in the wedding but not have on a wedding garment reveals that
this man had been deceived. But we have seen that deception comes about because of wine from
Babylonian sources. The new “historical critical method” more famously known as preterism
which is linked to the Jesuits is one method that has infiltrated the remnant understanding of the
its doctrines. Part of that method refuses 1844 and thus the principle of a two apartment
sanctuary in heaven is done away with in favour of the fact that Jesus ascended into the most
Holy Place when he went to heaven; this based on a faulty translation of Hebrews 9:12.
This of course removes the doctrine of victory over sin from the Advent message. The use of this
method of interpretation seeks to disconnect Daniel 8:14 from Leviticus 16 so that the concept of
the people being cleansed in Daniel 8:14 is not referred to. However parallelism easily links the
cleansing of the sanctuary with Leviticus 16 and establishes the judgement hour message with
the first Angel of Revelation 14:6-7. Clearly then the man without the wedding garment partook
of wine from outside the wedding feast and hence the reason why He became drunk.
John 2:10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and
when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine
until now.
This miracle Jesus performed to reveal that the best is given at the last. Notice here when the
144, 00 are sealed: Revelation 7:2-4 And I saw another angel ascending from the east,
having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom
it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor
the trees, till we have sealedthe servants of our God in their foreheads. And I heard the
number of them which were sealed: and there were sealedan hundred and forty and four
thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.
However this group is referred to as: Revelation 14:4 These are they which were not defiled
with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he
10. goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the
Lamb.
This means the persons who survive the last days of earth’s history have been empowered to
perform the most spectacular role in the plan of redemption. “The wise shall inherit Glory”
“Christ in you, the hope of glory:” “ye might be filled with all the fullness of God” thus
becoming “partakers of the divine nature” Proverbs 3:35; Colossians 1:27; Ephesians 3:19; 2
Peter 1:4. The 144, 000 would have gotten complete victory over sin and would have been the
ones to vindicate the character of God.
Higher than the highest human thought can reach is God's ideal for His
children. Godliness--godlikeness--is the goal to be reached. {Ed 18.3}
The very image of God is to be reproduced in humanity. The honor of God, the
honor of Christ, is involved in the perfection of the character of His people.
{DA 671.3}
God's ideal for His children is higher than the highest human thought can
reach. "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is
perfect." This command is a promise. The plan of redemption contemplates our
complete recovery from the power of Satan. Christ always separates the
contrite soul from sin. He came to destroy the works of the devil, and He has
made provision that the Holy Spirit shall be imparted to every repentant soul,
to keep him from sinning. {DA 311.2}
"Exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think," will be given unto us
"the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him," that we may be
able to "comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and
depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge,"
that we may be "filled with all the fulness of God."{ November 5, 1908 Filled with
the Fulness of God; para 12}
Romans 8:29-30 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to
the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover
whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified:
and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
Isa 60:1-2 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.
For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the
LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seenupon thee.
11. John 17:1, 5 “These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father,
the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:” “And now, O Father,
glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world
was.”
1 John 3:1-2 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we
should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him
not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but
we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
Exodus 33:18-23 And he said, I beseechthee, shew me thy glory. And he said, I will make
all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee;
and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew
mercy. And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: And
it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock,
and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and
thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
Exodus 34:29-30 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the
two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses
wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. And when Aaron and all
the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to
come nigh him.
Revelation 18:1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having
great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
My attention was then turned to the company I had seen, who were mightily
shaken. I was shown those whom I had before seen weeping and praying in agony of
spirit. The company of guardian angels around them had been doubled, and they
were clothed with an armor from their head to their feet(Note Romans 13:12). They
moved in exact order, like a company of soldiers. Their countenances expressed
the severe conflict which they had endured, the agonizing struggle they had
passed through. Yet their features, marked with severe internal anguish, now
shone with the light and glory of heaven. They had obtained the victory, and it
called forth from them the deepest gratitude and holy, sacred joy. {EW 270.4}
