PERSONALLY SPEAKING
1. SPEAKING PERSONALLY. . .
Q—Where can Human Resources add the greatest value?
A: In this highly competitive world, talent is the differentiator and human resources has to be both a talent
magnet and a talent builder. People, from its current or future leaders to its front line employees, are at the heart
of your organization’s performance. In a knowledge economy, the skills demanded of employees at all levels are
constantly being redefined. To deal successfully with this reality, human resources, in a talent-powered
organization, must accelerate learning and connect people to better share their knowledge and experience.
Q—What do you consider your greatest professional accomplishment?
A: My greatest professional accomplishment was building a high performing Human Resources team from the
ground up. I spent long hours attracting an outstanding team of professionals and putting in place cutting edge
policies, programs and services that supported the business. Together, we partnered with line management to
drive sustainable business and operations related results.
Q—Describe Human Resource’s role in promoting the organization’s culture.
A: I have always believed if you don’t have a culture by design, you have a culture by default. Although some
organizations have cultures that have formed spontaneously over time, when you look closely, many of these
companies have multiple cultures that are at odds with one another. This invariably leads to discord and conflict
and results in sub-par organizational performance.
Human Resources, as cultural steward, needs to play a key role in building and protecting a culture “by design”
that is well defined and clear to all. An organization’s culture can provide a framework for selecting and training
employees and be a game changer that sets the tone for engagement. Get the culture right and the company and
its people thrive.
Q--What distinct advantage will you bring to your next employer?
A: I have the unique ability to find top talent and build and lead teams to gain results quickly and cost
effectively, all the while building a “great place to work” culture which nurtures and drives teams to excellence.
