o Death of a loved one you take for granted …
now lonely, cannot do without that person
o Life’s Circumstances - hard knocks -
retrenched, demoted, desperate …
o Life’s lessons - hopefully mellow with age
having suffered pain
o Strive until come to end of oneself - Jacob

circumstances that come directly against
us to Breakdown our self-life
i.e. our pride, our strengths, our capacities,
our self-confidence, etc.
Circumstances and situations in life
occur according to Principles and
Laws of life.
This is common to man
i.e. both believers and unbelievers.

II. Brokenness is a Journey every believer
must undertake.
1. Pay attention to the Process of
brokenness.
During this journey, brokenness is a significant
BREAKTHROUGH in the life of the believer,
with a definite life-change.
e.g. Jacob - when broken, walks with a limp
Your walk will be different !

2. The degree of Pain of brokenness
depends on our response.
1 Peter 1:6
In this you greatly rejoice, though now
for a little while, if need be, you have been
grieved [suffer] by various trials,

There are 3 ways we learn the lessons of life :-
a. Pay “Tuition-Fees” ourselves - pain
b. Learn from people and situation of others
who have paid “Tuition-Fees” - no pain
c. Obedience to the Word of God - no pain
- taste Goodness of the Lord
- receive touch from the Lord
- revelation - repentance

Isaiah 57:15
For thus says the High and Lofty One
Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
with him who has a contrite and humble spirit,
to revive the spirit of the humble,
and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

… “God gives Grace to the humble.”

(those who are humble enough to receive it).
IV. To those who come to God in brokenness,
God will Dwell and Revive.

Unless you are broken,
you will be a hindrance to yourself,
your marriage, your family
and the church.
V. True Unity in the church comprise of broken
people.

The unbroken person / flesh is hostile
to God and cannot please God !

for the Master’s use ?

Acts 7:51
You stiff-necked and uncircumcised
in heart and ears!
You always resist the Holy Spirit;
as your fathers did, so do you.
Unless your heart is circumcised,
the Lord cannot heal
your broken-hardened heart.
22. SO WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM
BROKENNESS
• We sometimes have to be broken to see
our need
• The power of the flesh in our self-
dependence is revealed when we are
broken
• We see the power of God when we are
broken
• When broken we cling to God and his
blessings
• I am only as good to God as I am broken
to God
