3. Belgrade is an ancient city with rich, 7000-year long history. Singidunum, the name of the fortified settlement, was first mentioned in 279 B.C. Throughout centuries, Belgrade was exposed to numerous attacks and devastations, due to its attractive geographic position. It was finally liberated on April 18, 1867 and Prince Mihailo Obrenović moved the capital from Kragujevac to Belgrade.
4. The territory of Belgrade covers the area of 322,268 ha (3.7% territory of Serbia). It is administratively divided into 17 municipalities. Belgrade
5. Belgrade is surrounded by two different natural unities: the Pannonian Basin (Panonska nizija) on the north, and Šumadija on the South. The average height above see-level is 117 m, and there are two mountains near Belgrade: Kosmaj (628 m) and Avala (511 m). The length of river banks in Belgrade is 200 km and there are 16 river islets (Ada Ciganlija and Veliko ratno ostrvo are the biggest).
6. Today, Belgrade is a modern city. Due to the macroeconomic stability, market size, human resources, information technology, telecommunication and its geographic position and well-developed investment infrastructure, Belgrade became one of the most attractive locations for doing business in the region. In the competition for the European cities and regions of the future organized by the “ Financial Times”, in March 2006 Belgrade was awarded the title TODAY „“ City of the future in Southern Europe”

12. BELGRADE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IS AN INTEREST BASED, INDEPENDENT, PROFESSIONAL, BUSINESS ORIENTED ORGANIZATION, WHOSE MEMBERS ARE THE ENTERPRISES, THE ENTREPRENEURS AND OTHER ENTITIES THAT PERFORM ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES IN BELGRADE
20. The goals of the project were: internationalization of SMEs, improved knowledge of foreign trade legislation and practices, improved communication with foreign partners, networking with EU partners, etc. The project was completed in October 2008. CO&CO CHAMBERS Adriatic New Neighbourhood Programme INTERREG/CARDS-PHARE Belgrade Chamber of Commerce implemented Co&Co Chambers project, aimed at internationalization and overall improvement of SME business performance. The partners on the project were Chambers of Commerce of Aquila, Brindizi and Union of Chambers of Commerce of Veneto in Italy. The project was financed by the EU under INTERREG IIIA program.

54. Implementation of modern information technology is integral part of Belgrade Chamber of Commerce’s business strategy. 56. There are over 78,000 entrepreneurs – owners of trade, hospitality, craft and other shops, bureaus and agencies, who operate independently on the territory of Belgrade. UNION OF GENERAL ENTREPRENEURIAL ASSOCIATIONS The Union of General Entrepreneurial Associations, or shortly, the Union of Entrepreneurs, is an organizational form with a long tradition in the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce. The Union presently comprises 19 general associations from Belgrade and it shows the continual tendency of growth. In the total number of entrepreneurs in Serbia (around 209,000 registred entrepreneurs), the Share of Belgrade is more than 24% and it shows predominance of crafts and services.
