This document summarizes a study on automatic image matching using area-based correlation. The study developed a procedure to automatically determine conjugate points in epipolar image pairs using template matching. Different template sizes and correlation thresholds were tested. While the method worked well in textured areas, it struggled in homogeneous and shadowed regions with constant gray values. Increasing the template size improved matching but also introduced more geometric distortion. The results provided correlated points and a parallax map but were unable to generate a surface model.
