2. Unity
The main goal in prayer is to pray for
what the Lord desires. God does
care about every part of our lives,
but there are many times when what
we want conflicts with what others
want.
What kind of cloths, birthday
presents and Christmas gifts do you
want? Does God want the same
thing for you?
How does the Lord show that he
loves you even when you do not get
what you want?
3. Daily
Try and talk to God every day.
The more you get to know God the more
you feel God’s friendship and love. It
takes time for this to happen, but it will
happen.
How well do you know people you see
only once or twice a week? How well do
they know you?
One way to pray every day is ask, seek,
knock.
Ask God to help you and meet your needs
Seek God by listening to Him, what is God
saying
Knock by praying for someone else and
knocking on heaven’s door for them.
4. Time
It takes time to pray.
If you only have a second then it is OK
to pray that second. BUT, you should
also take more time to pray. How can
you plan on spending 10 minutes each
day in prayer?
Here are some things you can do to
help you remind yourself
• Make a poster for your room
• Put a prayer time in your smart phone
calendar
• Ask someone to text you or call you
with a reminder
• Tie something around your wrist as a
reminder
5. In My Heart
Praying in your heart is one way you
can pray all the time. God is listening to
your “heart’s cry”.
At school, on the bus, with your friends
are all times when you can talk to God
in your heart. Here are some times you
should try it.
When I am…..
Afraid
Being bullied
Feeling rejected
Need someone to talk to
Don’t know what to do
Start to get angry
Feel alone
6. Help
God loves to help us. God has
promised that He would not leave us
alone, there is never a time when God
says, “you are on your own”.
You should study for school and you
should pray. Whenever we get in
trouble we often do pray to get out of
that trouble. God doesn’t mind that.
God wants you to want Him when
everything is OK and when things are
going bad. Do you tend to talk to God
only when things are going bad?
Why?
Saying “thanks” is one way to pray
when things are going good. What are
some things you can thank God for?
7. Listening
It is hard to believe, but God is always
listening. God doesn’t just listen when
we are at church.
God hears all that we say, both good
and bad. God hears us when we
swear and when we complain, He
knows when we are kind and when we
forgive.
What does God hear from you when
you….
Forgive someone else
Show patience to someone
Help another person
Say, “I’m sorry”
Listen to your parents
8. Asking
How many times do we need to ask God
before He hears us?
If God does hear us, do we need to ask again?
It’s OK to pray about something one time, but
most of the time we pray over and over and
over again. This willingness to keep on asking
is called perseverance.
When you want something, don’t you keep on
asking for it? We sometimes get upset when
people “keep asking”. God is not like that.
When you “keep asking” God works to change
what we are going through and He works to
change us so that we are more like Him.
9. Fear
Fear is not a good way to motivate the
people of God. God tells us to “fear
not” and that His love casts out all fear.
God does ask that we respect Him and
realize that He is powerful and just.
God is the one who decides if we go to
heaven or hell, so we honor Him for
that.
“If you don’t pray, something bad is
going to happen to you” is not a good
way to encourage prayer. Bad things
happen to people even when they pray.
As you grow, try to pray because your
love God, not just because you are
afraid.
10. Pride
God gives more grace to the humble. We
all are shown grace by God, but “more
grace” is given to the humble. At the same
time it says that “God resists the proud”.
Being the best at soccer, at math, at
reading or at basketball is not the same as
being good at prayer. We do not need to
even try and “be the best”.
God wants you to try hard and to be
devoted to Him and what He asks you to
do. He does not call you to be the best.
God’s children are not in competition; we
are a family.
When you pray do not try to “outdo” the
other guy.
11. Fight
The Bible tells us to “fight”, “resist” and
“war against”. When we pray we are
often “fighting against” powers and
pressures that want us to disobey God
and sin. Ephesians 6 in the Bible tells
us how to put on the armor of God and
stand in the days of evil. This battle
includes prayer.
We do not fight against people. We do
not hate people. In fact, we learn to
love our enemies and pray for those
who spitefully misuse us. When you are
hurt by others, try using these two
prayers
“Lord Jesus have mercy on me a
sinner”
“Father forgive us”
12. No
When we ask God, He sometimes
says no.
Sometimes that “no” is a “not now”
and at other times it is a “never”.
When this happens it may be
difficult to feel like you can trust the
Lord. When we don’t get what we
want, we often feel hurt and
rejected.
“Trusting in the Lord with all your
heart” is hard when we get a “no”.
So talk to God about it. Let God
know how you feel and how bad it
hurts. Ask God to help you with
your feelings. Ask God to tell you
why.
You can trust the Lord. It may be
hard at times, but you can do it
with His help.
