Solar Power Plant In LPU
Solar power plant in LPU has been established in 2013.
It is situated on the roof top of the 38th block.
It consist of near about 400 panels.
Such 20 panels are connected in parallel of approximately 20
rows which generates output current of approximately 170 Ampere.
Solar Power Plant in LPU
Connections
Solar Power Plant
Solar power plant is the conversion of energy from sunlight
into electricity.
 Either directly using photovoltaic (PV), or indirectly using
concentrated solar power or a combination,
PV cells convert light into an electric current using
photovoltaic effect.
Components of solar power plant
Solar panels
PV cells
Controller
Inverter
Solar panels
Solar panels are the devices that converts light into electricity.
They are called solar panels because most of the time, the most
powerful source of light available is the Sun, called sol by
astronomers.
Photovoltaic(PV) Cell
A PV cell is specialized semiconductor diode that converts visible light
into direct current (DC).
Some PV cells can also converts infrared or ultraviolet radiations into
DC.
Working principal of PV cell
PV cells works on the principle of photo electric effect.
When sufficient energy of solar light falls on panels electrons
starts ejecting and start travelling from phosphorus doped (N-
type) to boron doped (P-type).
When sunlight strikes the surface of a PV cell then this
provides momentum and direction to electrons, resulting in a
flow of current.
Efficiency of PV cell
Regardless of size a typical silicon PV cell produces about 0.5-
0.6 V DC under open circuit, no load conditions.
The current output of a PV cell is proportional to the intensity
of sunlight striking the surface of a cell.
For example, under peak sunlight conditions, a typical PV cell
will produce about 2 watt peak power.
If the sunlight intensity were 40% of peak, this cell would
produced about 0.8 watt.
Controller
A solar charge controller manages the power going into the
battery bank from the solar array.
It ensures that the batteries are not overcharged during the
day.
Also, the power doesn’t run backward to the solar panels
overnight and drain the batteries.
Some charge controller are also available with additional
capabilities like lighting and load control.
CONTROLLER
Inverter
A solar inverter or PV inverter converts the variable DC output
of a PV solar panel into a utility frequency alternating current.
That can be fed into a commercial electrical grid or used by a
local off-grid space electrical network.
Conclusion
Solar power is an immense source of usable energy.
The energy of light shifts electrons in some semiconducting materials.
 This photoelectric effect is capable of large-scale electricity
generation.
Efficiency.
It requires large area.
Thankyou
