This document presents a project presentation on comparing the geometric design of highways using AutoCAD Civil 3D and MX ROAD software. It includes the scope, objectives, literature review, methodology, expected outcomes, and references. The scope involves examining an existing road's geometric design using the two software programs. The objectives are to conduct a comparative study and determine which software is more user-friendly. The literature review discusses previous studies analyzing road design with AutoCAD Civil 3D and MX ROAD. The methodology section will describe the road design process using the software. The expected outcomes are that the software will help design horizontal and vertical alignments more efficiently compared to manual design.

3. SCOPE OF THE STUDY
This study is focused on the study of the existing conditions and
maintenance of road.
This study utilizes AutoCAD Civil 3D and MX ROAD to examine
the road's geometric design.
This study is being carried out to determine which software is the
most user-friendly.

4. OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
Comparative study of geometric design of road using AutoCAD Civil 3D and MX
ROAD Software.
To upgrade or to improve the geometric features using both AutoCAD Civil 3D
and MX ROAD.
Reduce the cost of road development and it’s designing.
To improve the road life by efficient design.
Designing effective vertical and horizontal alignment.
Designing of super elevation.
Designing extra widening wherever required.

1. Payal Gaikawad, Prof. S. D.
Ghodmare,
“A Review-Geometric Design of
Highway with The Help of AutoCAD
Civil 3D”,
May 2020
This paper shows a typical design of roadway with the help of AutoCAD Civil
3D. They collected the survey data like co-ordinates and elevation of the
available surface. Existing surface was created using notepad files. Necessity
for cutting and filling was analysed.
The 3D roadway design, horizontal alignment, vertical profile drafting, cross-
segment were established. Super elevation was applied and determined.

Pandey,
“Designing of Rotary Intersection
Using AutoCAD Civil 3D Software”,
August 2019
This paper presents intersection design process using AutoCAD Civil 3D. The
study area for research was taken to be Medical Chauraha which is located in
Prayagraj district (Allahabad) Uttar Pradesh.
Manual design for the same was also done but it was time consuming. Using
AutoCAD Civil 3D for designing saved the time and also energy. Accurate
results were also obtained.
3. Vrushal Farde, Shreya Sawak

Tarmade,
“Rural Road Design and
Development”,
April 2019.
In this paper the study area was located, then analyzed and identified the
problem in road design. Laboratory and field testing were done.
Then the road design using AutoCAD Civil 3D was done and the reports were
computed to decide whether to go with flexible or rigid pavements. Waste
materials were also a major-criteria for selection between pavements.

4. Ali Asharf, Nishant Singh, Yashraj Shrivastava
and J S Vishwas, “Design of Sub-Arterial Urban
Road Using MX ROAD Software”,
May 2018.
In this paper the existing road details were collected. The design
procedure was based on IRC and AASHTO guidelines, BBMP design
standards was taken into consideration.
Road inventory survey of the location was done using GIS. Using
Pedestrian traffic and vehicular traffic a detail drawing for the road
using MX ROAD.

“Design of Highway Route Connecting A and B by
Considering Safety and Economy”,
November 2016.
This paper is mainly focused on problems associated with safety and
economical evaluation in Design of Highway that runs between two
stations A and B. Geometric Design like Horizontal and Vertical
alignment, Earth work and Pavement design of the road by MX ROAD.
The result of this study shows that the Highway with Less Curve in
alignment and Pavement Layers is more preferable from the economical
point of view since it is less expensive.

“Up Gradation of Geometric Design of Sh-131(Ch.
9.35km-15.575km) Using MX ROAD Software”,
June 2015.
The project location was SH-131 starts at chainage from 9.35km to
15.75km which ends at Bopgoan. The project road features were
computed.
All the improvements were planned within the proposed right of way.
The proposed alignment is designed to match with the existing
alignment at major cross drainage sections.

8. EXPECTED OUTCOME
Manual design takes lot of time and a lot of money and accurate reports are not
available. Whereas AutoCAD Civil 3D and MX ROAD helps to complete the
design process in a comfortable manner within time.
Horizontal alignment will be provided, a vertical profile will be produced, and a
cross-segment could be established using AutoCAD Civil 3D and MX ROAD.
Super elevation will be provided and determined using both the software.
Compute the results and compare which software is user-friendly.
