Hello, I’m Vantharith from SmallWorld Press, a ‘social publishing’ startup based in Phnom Penh. I believe in tech and literacy – so by combining these 2 items, we are leveraging ICT in promoting reading and literacy in Cambodia.
And here today, I’m pleased to present one project idea that I’ve come up with, called isbnKH.
Next, let’s go through the problems we are facing now…
Try not to talk too much about your organization – just enough for people to know what it does. For example, “We are an education NGO” or “We make software” etc.
For READERS:
Imagine yourself in Cambodia, trying to look for info about a book…
Where will you end up to? The short answer is: You NEVER, or RARELY satisfy with what you’ve got.
For LIBRARIANS: / Booksellers
As PUBLISHERS:
here's a big cost of inefficiency and readers and the public are wasting their time, energy and other resources to find the information they want. No one fully knows and/or have a big picture of what kinds of books are printed and available in the market.
Reduce, if not, eliminate the information costs, or search/transaction costs incurred during the process of finding the book information.
One-stop portal for everything you need to know about books published in Cambodia, e.g. you can search by book title, author, publishers, collections,
Wikipedia and other free knowledge projects from Wikimedia Foundation.
Open Food Facts
Open Library from The Internet Archive
isbnKH project is open, transparent and collaborative in nature.
If this project comes to life, it will become a Wikipedia-inspired crowdsourcing central repo of ISBN,
where publishers, libraries, readers and just anyone can contribute adding the contents into the database
while the public can enjoy searching for books info.
