4. It is one of UNESCO’s world heritage sites. It is famous for
the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier kept inside the
Basilica. Built on Baroque architecture, it was the first
basilica to be built in India. Located in Old Goa region, it
was built in 1594 with marbled floor and valuable stones.
An Interesting Fact: The body of St. Francis Xavier is kept
inside a casket which goes on exhibition every 10 years.

5. Also known as the Sea of Milk, the waterfall is a beautiful spectacle on
Mandovi river and is 60 kms from the capital of Goa, Panaji. Surrounded by a
thick cover of daciduous forests, the waterfall divides the Goan and Karnataka
states. The best time to visit this spot is Monsoons when the water is flowing at
full gush.
An Interesting Tip: You can take a train from the Castle Rock station to get
here. The train stops at Dudhsagar station for a minute. The station is an
unscheduled stop so don’t expect a platform here. Just descend the steep train
stairs and get going.

6. Standing on Sinquerium Beach overlooking the Arabian
Sea, Fort Aguada is a 17th century Portuguese wonder. One of
the main attractions here is its four-storied lighthouse. It was
constructed in 1613 and used for guarding the area from the
Dutch and Maratha armies coming by sea.
An Interesting Fact: A freshwater spring located inside the
fort premises was used by the passing Portuguese ships to
replenish their water storage, hence the name Aguada.

7. Located in the Colva village of south of Goa, Colva beach is famous
for its powder white sand and lines of coconut trees extending along
the shore. During the Portuguese rule of the state, Colva was
considered to be a retreat, where officials would come for leisurely
holidays. The area has many villas and a number of old Portuguese
ruins.
An Interesting Tip: It is the perfect stop for tourists as the beach

Anjuna beach is situated in the village of Anjuna, one of the 12
Brahmin communities of this area of Bardez. It also has the famous St.
Michael’s Church located here where feasts take place on every 29th
September in the memory of St. Michael.

trance parties. It is also a shopper’s heaven as a flee market is in full
swing every Wednesday from morning till evening.

The beach attracts peak rush in New
Years and Christmas seasons. Apart from

parasailing etc.

one can also check out St. Alex Church and
the Tinto market of Calangute.
11. Cabo De Rama
A Goan beach fort named after Lord Rama, it is located in Canacona, Goa
which is merely 25 kms from Margao. It is the oldest fort in Goa, constructed
even before the Portuguese came here. As per the Hindu mythology, Lord
Rama took refuge here with his wife Sita when they were on a 14 years exile
from Ayodhaya.
An Important Fact: The Portuguese renovated the place and installed 21
guns and constructed their barracks inside. The present ruin of the fort is also
a reminiscence of the old Portuguese construction

Thousands of tourists come here every year to visit the
Baga Beach and the Baga Creek. One can see rows of
shacks and fishermen boats at the beach everyday. One
can come here to enjoy water sports like parasailing,
dolphin cruises and more.

Baga Creek that feeds into Arabian sea at the beach’s
northern end.
13. Sunburn Festival
Welcome to Asia’s largest Music Festival at the shores
of Goa. Sunburn is the largest EDM (Electronic Dance
Music) fest that is held every year in Vagator, Goa. In
2009, CNN ranked it as the 9th best festival across the
world. Artists from all over the world perform
simultaneously on different stages.

festival that, apart from music, also offers loads of food

When it comes to Goan Night Life, you are literally spoilt for
