1. 【 Primary Objectives of the Asia-Pacific Water Summit (APWS) 】
To create the opportunity for the heads of state and government of 49 countries in Asia and the Pacific to:
 recognize the need for strong leadership at the helm of the region’s nation, regional collaboration and international
cooperation, and
 set a course of action for sustainable development of the region
【 Organizers 】
The Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) and the City of Kumamoto in close cooperation with relevant government
ministries and agencies of Japan and many international organizations
【 Objectives of the 4th APWS 】
To share the practices, lessons as well as the cutting-edge science, technologies, and innovations to discuss the ways to
implement more concerted actions and solutions in Asia and the Pacific to:
 achieve water-related SDGs;
 promote water-related quality infrastructure development including openness, transparency, inclusiveness for all,
economic efficiency in view of life-cycle cost, resilience, and debt sustainability, among others;
 effectively mobilize domestic resources, including from the private sector’s technologies, innovations, finances, and
know-hows
 strengthen coordination and collaboration mechanisms among the multi-stakeholders to ensure a sound water cycle
management in line with the context of each of water basin;
 achieve quality growth and promising future for well-being for all, including the next generations, looking ahead to
2050; etc.

 Keynote speech in the plenary, discussion and adoption of the outcome document through the roundtable
conference among the heads of state and government, parallel thematic sessions, exhibitions, and side events
