The defining attributes of the 21st
century
economy and the fourth industrial ­revolution
are innovation, technology, globalization and
rapid pace of change. Therefore, an organiza-
tion’s capacity to enhance the capabilities of
its workforce and create a culture of continu-
ous learning increasingly vital to remaining
competitive. These trends make an effective
learning and Leadership development (L&D)
function more critical than ever. L&D efforts
need to be closely aligned with the business
strategy and support learning at the speed of
business. Effective Learning and leadership
development programs are designed based on
­evidence based practices for adult learning.
This 6-months blended learning journey im-
merses participants with the latest insights
and leading practices in L&D Leadership which
will drive business impact.
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
AND REQUIREMENTS
The program aims at professionals who:

The International Masterclass Learning  De-
velopment Leadership is a demanding and
challenging program for participants in terms
of preparation, active participation, self-re-
flection, teamwork, presenting, working on a
personal project, among other activities.
We are looking for candidates who are very
motivated to participate; self-directed and ac-
tive learners; eager to share and facilitate; are
critical thinkers, willing to reflect on their be-
haviors and mindsets; open to experiment
with different methods; and finally have the
ambition to innovate and successfully trans-
form learning  development practices in their
organizations. It is the expectation that partic-
ipants co-create their learning journey in col-
laboration with other participants, external
coaches and faculty.

and academic experts from Nyenrode Business
Universiteit and IE University.
• Learning journey with an optimal blended
experience.
• Flipped classroom design including 2 x 3-day
immersive classroom experiences. No traditional
PowerPoint lectures.

MCKINSEY'S ACADEMIES FRAMEWORK
A SIX-MONTH LEARNING JOURNEY
This six-month program is designed based on proven
instructional strategies and provides the most sophis-
ticated, effective and efficient learning experience for
participants. The modern learning design involve inno-
vative delivery methods and pedagogy such as discov-
ery learning, flipped classroom, on-the job assign-
ments, digital learning, virtual classrooms, group work,
peer coaching and mentoring.
The program includes 2 x 3 days sessions at the Univer-
sity campuses at Nyenrode in the Netherlands and at IE
in Spain. During the classroom sessions, participants
will learn and collaborate with other participants on
how they can apply what they have learned through
other learning channels. Learners are also asked to
solve real problems and collaborate on a personal
­project for their organizations.
The average study load over 6 months is about 6-8
hours per week (excluding attendance of the immersive
classroom sessions). Optional assignments and study
opportunities are provided for participants who bene-
fit from extra study time.

1. STRATEGIC LEARNING  DEVELOPMENT
FOR BUSINESS IMPACT
This module advocates that Learning and development leaders
play a key role in supporting business strategy execution. Learn-
ing leaders need to have a good understanding of key trends
that shape the business and understand the implications for
people capability development. Encouraging an organization
culture in which all employees are regarded as learners requires
the development of a compelling vision and strategy for the
learning function. This module also explores how the workplace
can be turned into a learning place and what organizations can
do to make lifelong learning a reality. The overall goal of this
module is show how learning contributes to performance and
business impact.

Prof. dr. Nick van Dam
Academic Director

He is an internationally recognized thought leader, adviser,
researcher, author, and speaker on learning innovations
and leadership development. Nick has over 30 years of
business experience as a former partner, Chief Learning
­Officer, HR Executive, and Client Advisor at McKinsey 
Company, Deloitte as well as Siemens. As an advisor he has
served more than 100 clients around the world.
Nick is Chief of the IE University Center for Learning Innova-
tion, serves on the University Advisory Board and is profes-
sor in Learning, Talent and Leadership Development. Addi-
tionally, he is a full professor at Nyenrode Business
Universiteit (The Netherlands), as well as an adjunct profes-
sor at the University of Pennsylvania, where he works with
candidates in the executive doctoral program for Chief
Learning Officers. He is a senior advisor at Aberkyn, a
McKinsey Company.
Nick has written articles for various publications and has
been quoted by Harvard Business Review, Financial Times,
Wall Street Journal, Fortune Magazine, Business Week, India
Times, Information Week, Management Consulting, CLO Mag-
azine and TD Magazine.
He has authored and coauthored more than 25 books and
numerous articles on innovations in learning and leadership
development. Under the patronage of the European Parlia-
ment Federal Ministry of Education  Research, he received
the 2013 Leonardo European Corporate Learning Award for
‘shaping the future of organizational learning and leader-
ship development’.
He is the founder of the e-Learning for Kids Foundation,
which has provided digital lessons for more than 20 million
underprivileged elementary school children.

Jan Rijken is the former Chief Learning Officer for KPMG,
ABNAMRO and Mercedes-Benz and is a recognized thought
leader in the international Learning  Talent community. In
his current role as Director of the Crossknowledge Learning
Institute, Jan's main goal is to share his experience and
knowledge with the CrossKnowledge client network and
empower them in their strategic Learning performance
transformation. In addition, he conducts applied research,
publishes on strategic Learning topics on different media
and inspires as speaker at international conferences. He is
one of the lead facilitators of the International Masterclass
LD Leadership and Head of the Program Advisory Board.

INVESTMENT
The investment in this 6 months program is € 8.950,-. Course material, access
to the online learning platform, 6 hotel nights, lunches on program days and 5
dinners are included. No VAT/BTW will be charged for this program.
CERTIFICATE
Participants will receive the International Masterclass LD Leadership Certificate
if they meet the following requirements:

L&D efforts need to be closely aligned with the business strategy and support learning at the speed of business. Effective Learning and leadership development programs are designed based on ­evidence based practices for adult learning. This 6-months blended learning journey im- merses participants with the latest insights and leading practices in L&D Leadership which will drive business impact. PARTICIPANT PROFILE AND REQUIREMENTS The program aims at professionals who: • Have roles in learning development, leadership development, talent or human resources • Work in leading roles for LD solutions providers • Provide Learning development advisory • Minimum 8 years of working experience • English proficiency The International Masterclass Learning De- velopment Leadership is a demanding and challenging program for participants in terms of preparation, active participation, self-re- flection, teamwork, presenting, working on a personal project, among other activities. We are looking for candidates who are very motivated to participate; self-directed and ac- tive learners; eager to share and facilitate; are critical thinkers, willing to reflect on their be- haviors and mindsets; open to experiment with different methods; and finally have the ambition to innovate and successfully trans- form learning development practices in their organizations. It is the expectation that partic- ipants co-create their learning journey in col- laboration with other participants, external coaches and faculty. KEY DESIGN PRINCIPLES: • Co-created and designed by leading practitioners and academic experts from Nyenrode Business Universiteit and IE University. • Learning journey with an optimal blended experience. • Flipped classroom design including 2 x 3-day immersive classroom experiences. The modern learning design involve inno- vative delivery methods and pedagogy such as discov- ery learning, flipped classroom, on-the job assign- ments, digital learning, virtual classrooms, group work, peer coaching and mentoring. The program includes 2 x 3 days sessions at the Univer- sity campuses at Nyenrode in the Netherlands and at IE in Spain. During the classroom sessions, participants will learn and collaborate with other participants on how they can apply what they have learned through other learning channels. Learners are also asked to solve real problems and collaborate on a personal ­project for their organizations. The average study load over 6 months is about 6-8 hours per week (excluding attendance of the immersive classroom sessions). Nick has over 30 years of business experience as a former partner, Chief Learning ­Officer, HR Executive, and Client Advisor at McKinsey Company, Deloitte as well as Siemens. As an advisor he has served more than 100 clients around the world. Nick is Chief of the IE University Center for Learning Innova- tion, serves on the University Advisory Board and is profes- sor in Learning, Talent and Leadership Development.
