3. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
George Barns,
“How else can you describe matters when
most church going adults reject the
accuracy of the Bible, reject the existence
of Satan, claim that Jesus sinned, see no
need to evangelize, believe that good
works are one of the keys to persuading
God to forgive their sins, and describe
their commitment to Christianity as
moderate or even less firm.”
6. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
Francis Scheffer said:
“As Christians we are not only to know the
right worldview that Jesus tells us the
truth of what is, but consciously to act
upon that worldview so as to influence
society in all its parts and facets across
the whole spectrum of life, as much as
we can to the extent of our individual and
collective ability.”
8. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
- Culture in which we are raised.
- Our upbringing
- The books we read
- Our education
- The media to which we have exposed
ourselves.
9. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
- Our moral standards
- How we spend money
- How we vote
- How we relate to God, family, church,
friends.
10. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
Dr. John Macarthur,
“The first will be the eternal existence of
the personal transcendent, triune, God
Creator. Second, the God of Scripture has
revealed His character, purposes, and will
in the infallible and inerrant pages of His
special revelation, the Bible, which is
superior to any other sources of
revelation or human reason alone.”
11. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
'Absolute truth is a reality in our world,
regardless of what contemporary culture
says, regardless of what may or may not
be politically correct, and regardless of
what we may feel to be right or wrong.'
12. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
C.S. Lewis says,
“I believe in Christianity as I believe that
the Sun has risen, not only because I see
it, but because I see everything else.”
13. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
- We live in the last days
- Jesus Christ will return
- We need to know our Bibles
- We need to be close to Jesus.
14. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
2 Timothy 3:1-5
You should know this, Timothy, that in the
last days there will be very difficult times.
2
For people will love only themselves and
their money. They will be boastful and
proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to
their parents, and ungrateful. They will
consider nothing sacred...
15. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
2 Timothy 3:1-5
...3
They will be unloving and unforgiving;
they will slander others and have no self-
control. They will be cruel and hate what
is good. 4
They will betray their friends, be
reckless, be puffed up with pride, and
love pleasure rather than God. 5
They will
act religious, but they will reject the
power that could make them godly. Stay
away from people like that!
16. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
“Americans are more interested in faith &
spirituality than they are in Christianity.
Americans want to shape their own faith
experience – “Americans typically draw
from a broad treasure of moral, spiritual
and ethical sources of thought to concoct a
uniquely personal brand of faith.”
17. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
RELATIVISM
The belief that there are no absolutes in
life. We are all random products of an
evolutionary process – not created by
personal God.
18. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
RELATIVISM
-There is no right or wrong
-There is no good or evil
-There is no plan or purpose for us
-We are only here by chance
-We therefore make our own luck
20. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
RELATIVISM
If you are a true Christian and hold to a
biblical worldview, you must believe that it
is Jesus, and Jesus alone, who can save you
from your sin.
22. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
RELATIVISM
“I would say that if you don’t believe that
Jesus of Nazareth was the Christ and
Messiah, and that He rose again from the
dead and by His sacrifice our sins are
forgiven, you’re really not in any
meaningful sense a Christian.”
23. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
RELATIVISM
“It cannot be emphasized too strongly and
too often that this great Nation was
founded not by religionists, but by
Christians not on religions, but on the
gospel of Jesus Christ. For that reason
alone, people of other faiths have been
afforded freedom of worship here.”
24. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
RELATIVISM
-Abortion on demand on an epidemic
scale.
-Marriages dissolving at record rates.
-With the very definition of marriage and
family under attack.
27. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
WRITTEN IN STONE
Matthew 22:37-40,
‘Jesus said to him, “you shall love the Lord
your God with all your heart, with all your
soul, and with all your mind. This is the first
and great commandment. And the second
is like it: you shall love your neighbor as
yourself. On these two commandments
hand all the Law and the Prophets.”’
29. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
COMMANDMENT ONE:
WORSHIP THE RIGHT GOD (Exodus 20:3)
Exodus 20:2
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you
out of the land of Egypt, out of the house
of bondage.”
31. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
COMMANDMENT ONE:
WORSHIP THE RIGHT GOD (Exodus 20:3)
“Little children, keep yourself from idols.”
“Keep away from anything that may take
God’s place in your hearts.”
“Be on your guard my dear children,
against every false god!"
33. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
COMMANDMENT ONE:
WORSHIP THE RIGHT GOD (Exodus 20:3)
FACT: “Everyone, including atheists – has a
god. It may not be the true and living God
– but it is a god nonetheless that they
worship and serve.”
34. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
“We can pick an idol up we can put an idol
down. We can move an idol to this place
and then we can remove it to another
place. The idol is at our disposal. We can
hide it from our sight, or we can put it in
the centre of the room. We all devise our
won worship because we have devised our
own god.”
35. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
“I do not believe in a god who would judge
someone. My god is just, merciful, loving,
and accepting, and would never judge
anyone.”
36. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
Greg Laurie says,
“A biblical worldview is believing in God as
He is revealed in Scriptures. It is looking
to the Bible, and the Bible alone, as the
source and authority for your belief. It is
not what you feel, not what you have
heard, not what is popular, not what is
acceptable, not what is perceived as hip
or cool, and not what fits in with
contemporary culture.”
39. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
Matthew 19:16-22
16
Someone came to Jesus with this
question: “Teacher,what good deed must
I do to have eternal life?” 17
“Why ask me
about what is good?” Jesus replied.
“There is only One who is good. But to
answer your question—if you want to
receive eternal life, keepthe
commandments.” ...
40. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
Matthew 19:16-22
...18
“Which ones?” the man asked. And
Jesus replied: “‘You must not murder. You
must not commit adultery. You must not
steal. You must not testify falsely. 19
Honour your father and mother. Love
your neighbor as yourself.’” 20
“I’ve obeyed
all these commandments,” the young
man replied. “What else must I do?” ...
41. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
Matthew 19:16-22
...21
Jesus told him, “If you want to be
perfect, go and sell all your possessions
and give the money to the poor, and you
will have treasure in heaven. Then come,
follow me.” 22
But when the young man
heard this, he went away sad, for he had
many possessions.
42. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
Romans 3:19
“We know that whatever the law says, it
says to those that are under the law, that
every mouth may be stopped, and all the
world may become guilty before the
world.”
43. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
- It condemns, but it does not convert.
- It challenges us, but does not change us.
- It points the finger, but cant give mercy.
- It loves us without excuse… and it drives
us to Jesus, who has the answer we are
looking for.
44. ABSOLUTE TRUTH
Colossians 2:13-14
“He forgave all our sins. He cancelled the
record of the charges against us and took
it away by hailing it to the cross.”
