Their decisions in 2010 and 2011 are unambiguous. Government departments are directed, and the rest of the public sector encouraged or invited, to release high value public data that users want to use – in open formats and licensed for re-use using Creative Commons licensing. And to expose/publicise the data on a single directory.
This work is now standard in many countries – US, UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and EU countries.
