INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT
 The Field Crops Research Institute sponsored the Fifth Field Crops Conference, which was held at the ARC, Giza during 18- 20 Nov. 2014 under the patronage of HE Dr. Adel El-Beltagy, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation attended by more than 300 participants from different universities, research centers, seed companies, in addition to representatives from concerned ministries and institutions.
 The Conference was inaugurated by HE Dr. Adel El-Beltagy, who warmly welcomed the participants and briefed the audience with the latest in “Sustainable Agricultural Development Strategy 2030.” Welcome address by the President of ARC Dr. Abdel Monem El-Banna with brief presentation about ARC achievements. In addition, opening remarks by Dr. Mohamed Soliman, Director of FCRI was presented including FCRI activities, achievements, and prospective.
 The Conference included four keynote speakers dealt with some important issues: 1) Achieving food security in strategic field crops, 2) Role of seed improvement in crop production, 3) Utilization of genetic resources for food security under climatic changes, and 4) FCRI/ICARDA cooperation in field crops.
 Distinguished farmers who produced extraordinary yields of wheat and faba bean were honored and delivered certificates of recognition and appreciation for their hard work.
 An exhibition of new cultivars and hybrids developed by FCRI last few years to be recognized and utilized by farmers was held during the course of the Conference.

2.  A roundtable discussion was held at the end of the Conference to discuss (Future Prospects of FCRI). Recommendations came out of this discussion will be published in the Proceedings of the Conference.
Considering the major challenges and constraints facing crop production due to limited land and water resources, marketing, privatization and other limitations, besides the current progress in the field of biotechnology the conference recommends the followings:
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Field Crops Research Institute (FCRI) should continue efforts to develop its own capacities to fulfill its mission and continue to cooperate with other research institutes locally, regionally, and internationally regarding different field crop improvement.
2. It is important to focus on improvement and varietal development using biotechnological techniques and utilization of genetic resources to produce high-yielding cultivars tolerant of environmental stresses, especially salinity and water deficit stresses.
3. Emphasis should be given to growing hybrid rice for its earliness and yield superiority, to reduce the annual cultivated area with covering domestic demand and to save some production for exportation and to save some irrigation water for growing yellow maize.
4. Intensify efforts to reduce the use of pesticides in controlling field hazards was highly recommended involving development of tolerant cultivars of biotic and abiotic stresses and use of IPM Programs.
5. Strengthen the use of “community participatory approach” to take the farmers desires and requirements into

3. consideration when conducting research and adopting dissemination of new technology.
6. Increase percent coverage of certified seed, especially of wheat, hybrid rice, and faba bean to maximize productivity of such crops and increase self-sufficiency percentage.
7. Spread out growing improved high-yielding berseem clover that will save about 500,000 feddan to be added to wheat cultivated area.
8. Registration of new developed cultivars and hybrids internationally in the World Collections and published in Crop Science and given PI and NSSL numbers. In the meantime, subscribing and be a member of UPOV is extremely crucial for Intellectual Property Rights.
9. Renovation and development of Technology Transfer Programs and National Campaigns in such a way to fulfill the objectives of these programs.
10. Devoting more areas to grow strategic crops on contractual basis with big farmers to satisfy the increasing demand on oil, yellow maize, wheat, and faba bean to reduce importation. Price of the major crops should be set and announced ahead of time before planting.
11. In-country and out-country training should be given primary priority to research and technical staff of the institute for capacity building purpose. It was suggested to publish research papers internationally in highly reputable journals and try to find funding sources to cover the cost of publication.
12. Involvement of the socio-economic and adoption studies in all research studies in cooperation with the Economic Agricultural Res. and Extension Res. and Rural

13. A Follow-up Committee should be formed to make sure of the implementation of the above-mentioned recommendations and be in charge of the documentation of the FCRI progress reports and achievements on a regular basis.

5. المؤتمــر الخــــامس لممحاصيل الحقميــــة

 تم عقـــــــد المــــؤتمـــــــــــر الخـــــــــامس لمعيـــــد بحـــــــوث المحاصيـــــــــل الحقميـــــــة تحـــت
عنوان "نحو تحقيق أمن غذائي" تحت رعاية معالي أ.د. /عادل البمتاجي وزير الزراعة
واستصلاح الأراضي خلال الفترة 02 88 نوفمبر 0282 . وقد بمغ عدد الحضور أكثر من -
022 مشارك ينتمون إلى الجامعات والمراكز البحثية والشركات بالإضافة إلى ممثمين من
الوزارات والمؤسسات ذات الصمة.
 وقد تفضل معالي وزير الزراعة بافتتاح المؤتمر وقدم عرضا تحدث فيو عن استراتيجية
التنمية الزراعية المستدامة 0202 ، كما قام السيد أ.د./ عبد المنعم البنا رئيس مركز
البحوث الزراعية بالترحيب بالحضور وقدم عرضا مختصرا عن أنشطة المركز، كذلك قــدم
أ.د. / محمد سميمان عرضا عن أنشطة و انجازات معيد بحوث المحاصيل الحقمية.
 تضمنت الجمسات الصباحية في أيام المؤتمر أربعة موضوعات زراعية ىامة وىي: 8( تحقيق
الأمن الغذائي في المحاصيل الاستراتيجية، 0( دور تحسين إنتاج التقاوي في إنتاج
المحاصيل الحقمية، 0( استخدام المصادر الوراثية في تحقيق الأمن الغذائي تحت ظروف
التغيرات المناخية 2( التعاون المشترك بين المعيد ومنظمة إيكاردا في مجال المحاصيل
الحقمية.
 كما تم تكريم ومكافأة بعض المزارعين المتميزين في إنتاجية محاصيل القمح والفول البمدي
وتسمموا شيادات تقدير من معالي وزير الزراعة.

6.  أقيم عمى ىامش المؤتمر معرض لأصناف المحاصيل المختمفة حديثة الإستنباط لمتعرف
عمييا واستخداميا في حقول المزراعين.
 وفي نياية المؤتمر تم عقد لقاء بين بعض الميتمين بالبحوث الزراعية من معيد بحوث
المحاصيل الحقمية والجامعات وشركات التقاوي لمناقشة المبادئ والأسس العممية المستقبمية
لمعيد بحوث المحاصيل الحقمية وتحسين أدائو، وسوف تنشر التوصيات في مجمد المؤتمر

ونظرا لمتحديات والمعوقات الكبيرة التي تعترض زيادة الإنتاج لمختمف المحاصيل الحقمية بسبب
محدودية الموارد الطبيعية )الأرض والمياه( وتحرير السوق والخصخصة بجانب بعض
الموضوعات الأخرى المتعمقة بحقوق الممكية الفكرية بالإضافة إلى ما حدث ويحدث من تقدم في
مجال استخدام التقانات الحيوية يوصي المؤتمر بالآتي:
.8 استمراريو التعاون بين معيد بحوث المحاصيل الحقمية والمراكز والمعاىد البحثية المحمية
والإقميمية والدولية لمنيوض بدور المعيد في تحقيق أىدافو لتحسين إنتاجية مختمف
المحاصيل الحقمية.
.0 تعظيم الاستفادة من المصادر الوراثية المتاحو والمستجمبو من الخارج في برامج التربية
المختمفة بالمعيد لإستنباط أصناف وىجن جديدة عالية الإنتاجية تتحمل الإجيادات
البيئية خاصة المموحة ونقص مياه الري وارتفاع الحرارة.
.0 الأىتمام بنشر زراعو الأرز اليجين عالي الإنتاجيو بما يؤدي إلي تقميل مساحة الأرز
المنزرعة سنوياً مع تغطيو الطمب المحمي وتحقيق فائض تصديري وتوفير مياه الري
لمتوسع في زراعة الذرة الشاميو الصفراء.

7. .2 استمراريو الجيود البحثية لمحد من استخدام المبيدات عن طريق استنباط أصناف مقاومة
للإجيادات الحيوية واستخدام برامج المكافحة المتكاممة.
.5 تقوية ودعم أسموب التربية بمشاركة المزارعين لأخذ احتياجاتيم ورغباتيم في الاعتبار
عند استنباط الأصناف المختمفة.
.6 زيادة نسبة التغطيو بالتقاوي المعتمدة لمحاصيل القمح والأرز اليجين والفول البمدي
بيدف تعظيم الإنتاجية ورفع نسبة الإكتفاء الذاتي منيا.
.7 نشر زراعة أصناف البرسيم المصري المحسنة عالية الإنتاجية مما سيوفر نحو 522
ألف فدان من مساحو البرسيم تضاف لمساحة القمح.
.8 تسجيل أصناف وىجن المحاصيل الحقمية الجديدة دوليا بالدوريات العممية العالمية وبنوك
حفظ الأصول الوراثية لكل محصول وكذلك الإسراع في الحصول عمى عضوية مصر في
الـ UPOV ، والعمل عمى تبسيط وتطوير نظام تسجيل و اطلاق الأصناف محميا.
.9 رفع كفاءة وتطوير برامج نقل التكنولوجيا والحملات القومية عن طريق الإعلام المرئي
بالإضافة إلى ما ىو قائم بما يكفل تحقيق الأىداف المرجوة من ىذه البرامج.
.82 تشجيع الزراعة التعاقدية خاصة لمحاصيل الحبوب والزيوت والفول البمدي مع تحديد
سعر مجزي قبل زراعتيا بوقت كاف مما سيؤدي إلي زيادة المساحة المنزرعو والإنتاج
الكمي من تمك المحاصيل.
.88 الاىتمام بالتدريب الداخمي والخارجي لمباحثين والفنيين بالمعيد ونشر البحوث في
الدوريات العممية العالمية المرموقة وتدبير التمويل اللازم لذلك.

8. .80 الاىتمام بالدراسات الإقتصادية والإجتماعية ود راسات التبني لمبحوث التي تجرى وذلك
بالتعاون مع معيد بحوث الاقتصاد الز راعي ومعيد بحوث الإرشاد الزراعي والتنمية
الريفية وقطاع الشئون الاقتصادية بالوزارة.
.80 تشكيل لجنة فنية ميمتيا متابعة تنفيذ توصيات المؤتمر والعمل عمى تذليل أي عقبات
قد تصادف تنفيذىا، وكذلك القيام بتوثيق المعمومات والإنجازات الخاصة بالمعيد بصفة
دورية.
