The concept of wildlife conservation
1. DR RAJPAR MUHAMMAD NAWAZ

Concept of Wildlife Conservation and its Importance for Fauna
Protection in Different Habitats
2. Pakistan is bestowed with magnificent and fascinating landscape
from aquatic resources to higher elevation mountain ridges.
This diversity of habitats had occupied with a wide array of vegetation
structure and composition which are rich in food resources and had
attracted a variety of fauna species.
8. Wildlife management is interdisciplinary that deals with protecting FAUNA species
and their habitats
It emphasizes the both applied and basic research about wildlife ecology,
management, education and extension
Ecological principles such as carrying capacity of the habitat, preservation and
conservation of habitat, reforestation, predator control, re-introduction of extinct
species, capture and relocation of displaced fauna species in their native habitat
Wildlife management is an art and science through which various fauna and
their habitat have been manipulated and managed on a sustainable basis.
11. CONCEPT
Restrictions on taking game has been mentioned in the Bible.
The first official hunting season was established in 13th century by Kublai Khan.
Today, wildlife conservation has evolved into a science, but its goal remains essentially
the same: to ensure the wise use and management of renewable resources.
Given the right circumstances, living organisms that we call renewable resources can
replenish themselves indefinitely.
12. Early attempts for wildlife management were taken in early 1900s in
the United States toward protection and preservation of mule deer.
Hunting was banned, and predators were destroyed.
The result was severe overpopulation, habitat destruction and mass
starvation
13.
14. Trends in population of different wildlife species
The interaction of wildlife species with their habitat,
micro-climate and food resources
The impact of human activities, climate change, and
surrounding landscape.
COMPONENTS
15. The wildlife management helps to maintain balance of nature
It can increase foreign exchange if linked with
eco-tourism
To preserve the genetic diversity of fauna in order to increase the
populations of heterogeneous wildlife species
WHY WILDLIFE MNAGEMENT IS SO IMPORTANT
16. To ensure the sustainable development- using
the finite resources in a judicious manner
Create, enhance or improve sufficient habitat to
support suitable populations of desired wildlife
species
Manage habitat and populations to protect flora
and fauna enlisted as threatened, endangered,
critically endangered, vulnerable
17. Custodial Wildlife Management: it is preventive or protective activities in order to
minimize the external influences on the density and diversity of species and their
habitats. For example; establishment of protected areas
TYPES OF WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT
Manipulative wildlife Management: It deals with changing the number of
individuals of wildlife species through direct means, altering food supply, habitat
alteration, reducing predator density and prevalence of diseases.
18. MonitoringWildlifePopulations:
• It is highly important to
determine the birth
rate, death rate of
different wildlife
species.
• It will help to set
hunting regulations and
other management
practices in order to
conserve and manage
wildlife species and
their habitats.
HabitatImprovement:
• Habitat is vital
import for
wildlife species,
i.e., it provides
shelter, food
and breeding
grounds for
them.
HuntingRegulations:
• Through
implementing
the hunting
rules and
regulations, the
population of
different wildlife
species can be
controlled.
HOW TO MANAGE WILDLIFE SPECIES IN DIFFERENT HABITATS
19. ArtificialStocking:
• Trapping of wild
animals in the
area where their
population is
more abundant
and released
them into other
areas (i.e.,
suitable habitat)
may enhance
the population.
ControllingtheDisease
• Disease may
have a
devastating
effect on wildlife
survival.
PredatorControl:
• Controlling the
predators may
enhance the
populations of
threatened and
endangered
species
