• In the 18th century, Islam in
the Sub-continent was in
decline.
• Fear that political collapse
would be accompanied by
religious disintegration.
• This did not happen; rather
an era of religious
regeneration was
inaugurated.
• Because of Shah Wali Ullah.
3. Biography
Shah Waliullah
• Born: 1703 at the time of
Aurangzeb rule in India.
• Real name: Qutu-bud-din
Ahmad.
• But he was named Shah
Waliullah because of his pity.
• Father name: Shah Abdus
Rahim (the founder of
Madressa-e-Rahimiya)
• When his father died in 1718
Shah Wali Ullah began
teaching at the Madrassa.
4. Education
• Shah Waliullah memorized the
Holy Quran at the age of
seven.
• Later he studied allied
religious disciplines such as
Quranic tafseer, Hadith
• And the knowledge of
mathematics, literature and
philosophy face in his
contemporary environment.
• At the special age of 15,
completed his education and
became a disciple (mureed) of
his father who gave him
spiritual training.
5. Pilgrimage
to Makah
• Decided to perform the
pilgrimage at the age of 23.
• He attended the discourses on
Sahih Al Bukhari from Sheikh
Abu Tahir Muhammad Bin
Ibrahim Kurdi Madani.
• The Sheikh directed him in the
study of the six Sahihs and
was permitted to teach them
afterwards.
• Returned India and started
teaching again.
