Addition to an existing hotel with 20
rooms. Plan to expand to 60 rooms with
a dining hall, an entrance lobby, modern
kitchen, swimming pool and luxury
rooms. The site planning required care
ful study of the topography and water
flows. This led to the discovery of the
stream which became the focus of
the design and the spine, with an
organic form, for the circulation.
The resort is located in a hot and humid
climate. The rooms were supposed to be
built with local technology using a
stone called ‘chira’ that is plastered with
mud. The roof would be constructed in
clay tiles so that the structure stays cool.

The project required a Dance Studio of
45,000 sq. ft in Historic District of
Downtown Seattle.
The organization of the program
produced the basic massing. The vol
ume of the spaces determined the kind
of Structure. The structure generated
the circulation. The circulation gener-
ated an Architectural Promenade
within the building which enriched the
experience of moving within the build
ing. The order was setup by the struc
ture. It created a rhythm which was
reflected on the elevation in the form of
windows and grooves.
